Colonoscopy - do they always take biopsies?

I had a colonoscopy today to investigate some stomach/bowel issues I have. The doctor told me he found a small polyp but gave no other feedback at the time. On my notes I noticed he took 4 biopsies. Is this normal procedure, or a sign that he had some concerns? 😟

Biopisies are not just for cancer. They rule out lots of other pathology- crohns, UC etc. some thing can only be diagnosed under a microscope

Yep, normal. Used to examine gut wall for IBD/Chrone’s/UV, also used to determine enzymes/intolerances/allergies. That’s additional to biopsies on polyps if concerns. Not every polyp can simply be removed via colonoscopy either, and it goes to whether you then need to worry about them or not.
