No period since December? Where do I go from here?

Hi all,

Ive had no period since December. I had a pelvic scan and no PCOS/pregnancy. I had bloods done recently and all showed I am in the ‘follicular phase’ apparently which I think means I’m not ovulating and might explain my lack of period. My progesterone was 0.39 nmol/l which I think is slow.

My GP is not willing to explore it further but I am concerned that it has been 6 months since my last period and not sure why.

Can anyone offer any insight into my bloods or have any suggestions on what to do? I have lost weight over the past year but very slowly. My bmi is 20.9 and I’m not underweight.

Did you have your prolactin levels measured in your blood test? High prolactin can stop periods and would need investigating.

Yes it was 285 so normal I think

It could be your weight loss. Although you're technically within your healthy weight range, it might not be healthy for you depending on your body composition (muscle mass and % fat). My periods stop when I reach the bottom end of my healthy weight range and don't come back until I gain a bit more weight.

Also are you exercising/ training a lot, as this can also stop periods.

I’m really surprised your GP is reluctant to investigate further, especially given your young age. I’ve got PCOS and if I get above a certain weight, my periods just stop until I lose it and I’ve had years of no periods because of this (took me a while to work out the cause was my weight). I used to see an endocrinologist when I was first diagnosed with PCOS who told me I needed to have a minimum of 3 periods a year to stay healthy and from memory to keep my risk of developing cancer down. I would personally try and see a different GP and ask for them to investigate further, they need to find out the reason as there must be one! Good luck.
