Suspected ovarian cancer surgery Thursday - petrified

Hello, first ever post… I’m going in for suspected ovarian cancer surgery on Thursday and I’m petrified. Complete hysterectomy with ovary removal. I’ve a 13cm complex cyst being treated like cancer. The surgeon has mentioned I may need a stoma bag if they have to cut pieces out of my bowel, I can’t eat the day before surgery (diabetic so worrying about that) and have to take laxatives the night before to clear bowel. Is this normal to be told/go through? He’s no idea of the size of the cut at this point as he’s going to look everywhere for grains of sand (cancer cells I guess?)

Please can someone reassure me that they are giving me the worst case scenario here. CT scan was inconclusive but my CA125 is 200. Surgeon thinks I may have some endometriosis going on too. Thanks.

4 years ago my sister had to have an urgent op to remove a large mass on an ovary. They told her they suspected oc, the op actually lasted longer than expected because when they went in they discovered it was all endometriosis and had to spend time removing as much as the endometrial tissue which was everywhere including this large mass on the ovary which was also removed.
She also had elevated CA-125 levels.
I hope you have a similar outcome.
Good luck on Thursday, I hope it goes well for you.

I can’t have any form of HRT. I have tried Sertraline for the hot flushes (made worse by the hormone inhibitors I am on) but I felt so awful after one tablet that I stopped it. Currently debating trying reflexology. But I only really have hot flushes (if we aren’t mentioning the MASSIVE change in body shape and how I store fat now….badly) and insomnia so I don’t feel like I suffer enough to warrant further medication tbh!

My body change is the biggest thing for me, I’m storing fat around my middle and my metabolism has gone from super high to sluggish at best. I’ll take it over cancer though obviously but sometimes I just think I deserve to complain and not just be grateful that I am currently alive 😅

@Fragglerocks76 i hope today goes/has gone well for you.

I had a 7cm cyst removed which was benign a chocolate cyst related to endo. My CA125 was 350.

Thank you everyone. Doing ok today so far, but keep having the odd panic about what they are going to find in there and what I’m going to wake up with. Hopefully by this time tomorrow it will be one step towards getting some normality back.

Thanks @AGreatUsername for the HRT update, I had a feeling you were going to say something like that. I’m fairly sure I’m peri already as already have night terrors and sweats and brain fog. up until the last two months or so periods have been like clockwork so not sure! X

Fragglerocks76 · 16/06/2023 18:07

Definitely got ovarian cancer unfortunately. I’m devastated. They’ve taken something sinister off my bowel so likely to be stage 3. Not recovering very well from the surgery (still in intensive care) and now have to go through chemo. 😞

Oh, I am so sorry. I came on here to check how you were today and I'm so shocked to read the update. Wishing you all the very very best with your treatment. 💐

So sorry op. I don't have easy experience so nothing useful to say I'm afraid, but I just wanted to say we are all rooting for you and here if you want to talk about anything anytime on this thread.

HappyKatieA · 16/06/2023 18:12

SaltyCrisps · 16/06/2023 18:28

I'm very sorry to hear that, OP :-( I hope they're keeping you pain free.

AGreatUsername · 16/06/2023 19:13

I’m sorry to hear that @Fragglerocks76 it is an awful shock even if you are expecting it. Stay off google, everything is usually out of date by several years and treatment is moving on all the time. Chemo wasn’t so bad for me. Traumatic with the hair loss but physically it was alright, so don’t get too worried before you start. Still happy to chat via PM if you like.

Lougle · 16/06/2023 19:15

@Fragglerocks76 so sorry to hear that but glad they found it.

PollyThePixie · 16/06/2023 19:18

I’m very sorry to hear this Fraggle.
