The best non-toxic carpet?

I have a toddler and I’m planning for another babe soon! But recently I’ve been researching further into things inside and outside our home that are toxic or contain forever chemicals (PFOAs). They’re in absolutely everything!! And you can’t escape it. So my mindset is this - make small changes where I can, as this does make a difference Smile for us as people and for the planet.

I recently got rid of everything in my kitchen that had any sort of non-stick coating and replaced my pots and pans with tri-ply stainless steel ones from pro cook! (Incase anyone else also wants to make the change - after a lot of research, they seemed the best quality and most reasonably priced in the UK). And for utensils I’m using stainless steel or wood.

Since I’m wanting to get pregnant, I’m thinking a lot about my health and fertility (as these chemicals wreck your immune system and reproductive organs/hormones) and I'm thinking about my toddler and unborn child.

We’re getting new carpet and I recently learned that underlay and carpet is basically super toxic. It has a load of nasty chemicals and PFAOs, even the natural stuff because of how it’s processed? These chemicals are problematic because we breathe them in, they get in the air as they are VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and they cause a massive array of health issues. These include known carcinogens. My concern is understandable as aside from it being all around the house, my kid/s will be crawling on it, etc.

I was really set on carpet and was thinking about how it’s best for the babies, so I have two questions please:

What do you recommend for the best carpet in this case?

And, what would you recommend as a ‘healthier’ non-toxic alternative to carpet? Although I don’t really want to do this.

We had the floors measured last week for carpet to be fitted so now I’m stressing out!! Really appreciate any advice or if you can point me in the right direction, thank you so much in advance. And I hope this information can be helpful to other people that are conscious about these things.

I've done the same with my pans and utensils a few years ago after I had a cancer diagnosis. Also swapping over to parabens free toiletries and using basic cleaning products (vinegar, baking soda, etc).

We're now renovating an old house and will use lower toxin materials e.g. paint.

Following this thread with interest for carpet/rug recommendations. I'm also thinking about beds for when we need to get a new one.

We have the odd rug but no carpet in our house. Downstairs is all tiles with underfloor heating. Bathroom is the same.

Bedrooms, stairs & hallway (upstairs only) is wooden floors- probably not as "clean" as tiles but miles better than carpet.

I have to say that since we have removed carpets from sleeping areas, Ifeel a lot better in the mornings. But I attribute this to the dust and dirt that gets trapped in carpets.

Bloody hell, it's a wonder we've all survived

Ahh I didn't think about that, thank you! And yep the mattress/bedding is another thing that I've been thinking about, as that's where we spend most of our time.

I'm looking at organic cotton sheets at the moment, not sure about the other materials that are decently priced. I'll post if I find anything!
