I hope you don’t mind me tagging you but you all mentioned on another thread that you have lipoedema and I’ve never met anyone else who’s been diagnosed so I thought it would be nice to chat.

I was diagnosed a few months ago but I’ve suspected I’ve had it for years. I’m stage 2 allegedly but I think it’s probably more like 2/3 or even 3 looking at others’ photos. I have it in my arms and legs.

I’m really hoping to get surgery in the next year in either Germany or Cyprus (one of Dr Ghods’ team has recently set up there) but I’m more than a little terrified!!

How are you all getting on?

@TheSnootiestFox oh my word. I wasn’t expecting you to say that. I was expecting you to say you were back to normal in a few weeks. If I did it how long before going back to work do you think? Thanks for your reply.

I had two weeks off and I should have taken more. I'm on week 10 now and every week when I've gone in to the office I've been told I look better 😂I've still got the shooting shock type pains and they're driving me insane!

@TheSnootiestFox thanks for your experience. I am glad you are on the mend and hopefully it will all settle down soon.

Is there a surgeon in Berlin anyone recommends? Im going to be travelling there and would like to have a consultation.

Welcome @mimosa1 . Are you on Facebook? There is a really informative group called Global Lipoedema Awareness- Surgeries/Doctors which has a huge spreadsheet of surgeons, costs, type of lip and anaesthesia, plus you can post your question there as well.

I have taken the plunge and have booked with Dr Majewski in Essen. I have a date for 2024 but am hoping to get a cancellation so I have the first surgery before Christmas.

Lipoedema liposuction

has anyone had liposuction on legs for this. I am considering going abroad due to the cost by ideally would like to go to recommended surgeon only.

please share your experience of liposuction and surgeon, positive or negative.

I did this - I went to Germany twice. First time for calves and second time for thighs. Has been life changing in terms of my feelings about myself and I can now wear skirts!!

The cost of the ops were around £4K each but total costs - travel, mld, time off work , travel buddy, etc - all in about £7K each.

Calves was a harder recovery but within 4 weeks I was prancing about in short dresses and thighs was much easier.

Travelling was straightforward and the care was incredible- although if you can have someone help you home it is better, as it’s a bit miserable travelling after an operation.

Hi @Cherryana thank you for the reply. Would you mind telling me what stage lipoedema you had.

I am unsure if I do have it as I have not had an official diagnosis.

I think I have it because my legs are always thick for my size and have got worse as I have got older.

I was stage 2. I was quite petite but my legs and particularly my lower legs were very out of proportion. My calves were 16.5 inches and I had an ankle cuff. My thighs had a bulging out to the front look.
Now my calves are 15 inches..(which is still on the larger side for my frame) but they have a much more typical shape.
