Ultimate cure for tired all the time

I know, it's the age old question but I'm keen to hear usual, unusual, weird and wonderful tips for feeling tired all the time.
I'm early 40s, vegetarian, fairly active, 3 dc and a young dog who needs lots of walks, renovating our house, work full time and just constantly exhausted, which I know is mainly because I just never seem to stop! I've had my bloods checked and they're all normal, albeit lower end of normal, but I take a multivitamin, eat fairly healthily and drink lots of water.
Has anyone worked out a miracle cure (or even something that helped a good amount?!)

What were your iron - both levels and stores - and thyroid function readings?

bluepeterentry · 09/06/2023 21:20

I'm not sure if I'm reading the right results but a recent test:

Serum TSH level 1.5 mu/L

Serum vitamin B12 level 194 ng/L

Serum folate level 12.4 ug/L

Serum ferritin level 24 ug/L

I know im probably just tired because im busy and awful hayfever recently lent helping but I'd try anything for a boost and stop craving a 3pm nap daily!

Take Vit b complex and give up alcohol. Have a good bedtime routine. Take magnesium glycinate. Cut down sugar and caffeine.

I don't really drink alcohol other than a glass of wine now and again and don't have any caffeine. I could probably cut out sugar more and will look into vitamin B. Thanks

Is your vitD ok? Your thyroid needs it to work properly.

Theskipisfull · 09/06/2023 21:42

I'm always exhausted, following with interest!

As you are in your 40’s I’d have a look at peri menopause too, so you know the signs.
Exhaustion is a symptom, and I didn’t realise that my periods were so bad that my ferritin dropped.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 10/06/2023 07:27

That ferritin is very low.

Mine was 16 before Xmas and I was on the floor, plus also felt faint sometimes. The results I received said 'ferritin below normal level, investigate cause'.

I recommend you take a ferrous sulphate every few days with a vitamin c tablet for absorption, at least two hours before breakfast/coffee. My Ferritin is now over 70 and I feel loads better.

Also poss investigate HRT that has also given me more energy.

Otherwise delegate as much as you can afford to!

Moredarkchocolateplease · 10/06/2023 07:29

Oh OP BTW I've had an afternoon nap for years.

Since my iron is back to normal I don't crave it nearly as much.

My GP looked at all my ferritn results going back to when I had my children and they have been low for years. Never got them back up after giving birth.

DustyLee123 · 10/06/2023 07:29

For low ferritin I was given ferrous Fumarate.

AnnaMagnani · 10/06/2023 07:31

You would feel a lot better if your ferritin was over 100.

Start taking some iron.

Coffeeandcake12 · 10/06/2023 07:46

I was tired for years! I feel like I've taken every vitamin invented. The only thing that has helped has been giving up sugar and packaged food, so no crisps, sweets, cakes, anything in a packet! It was hard to begin with and it's been 4 months now but I've got so much more energy and I'm not constantly tired.

bluepeterentry · 10/06/2023 08:31

Thank you. The GP was adamant that all the results were fine, even when I asked if some were low enough to be causing symptoms. I have no other menopause symptoms and they tested whatever it is they test and concluded I wasn't peri. I don't have periods so it's hard to tell!
I'll get some iron supplements and try that too- I have been anaemic a few times before so maybe that'll help.
I'm counting down to the end of term so I have six weeks off work, literally counting down the days so I have some time to rest!

Vitamin D. Really high strength one's, not the sort you buy at boots. In liquid form. I have the strength that's right at the limit of what's safe to take, not at the limit of the RDA.

Short snoozes to reset my brain if I can. Brisk walks that make me breathless

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/06/2023 08:39

My ferritin was 22 and came back as borderline low

speakout · 10/06/2023 08:40

Plenty sleep and a good diet.
