How do I get my GP to take me seriously

I've been having sinus headaches, sinusitis and sinus pain on and off for 2 years now. I am so sick of it. I've been on antibiotics a few times, nasal spray, oral steroids, hey fever tablets. But docs says he doesn't think ENT referall is nesesary. I struggle so much with being pushy. I don't know what to do. I can't go on like this.

Only one GP in the practice.

Can you afford one private consultation ?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 03/06/2023 22:00

Letter of complaint?

Doggymummar · 03/06/2023 22:01

Go private?

Teabab · 03/06/2023 22:03

Can you move surgeries? We have 2 in our catchment, not sure if everywhere does but having just the one GP would put me off. It sounds like you need a second opinion, if you see a GP for the same thing 3 times and it's not resolved they're supposed to then escalate and refer on- this could be to a colleague but they don't have any!

I mean you could email the practice manager but not sure if it'd get anywhere, you really need a second opinion. DH had similar and following a scan had to have them drained in surgery (it sounded gross and was quite scary but it helped).

I guess I could afford going private for a consultation but I defo couldn't afford anything after that. So I probs need to look into how I know if GP will accept the results from a private consultation.

I do think part of the problem is that since the appointment is always a phone one with no idea of the time I'm normally in a play group or ruining around after my toddler and I just give him the bear bones of what's going on rather than how much it's is affecting me.

Maybe I should request a face to face all just so I can go in prepared.

Request a face to face and an ent referral. Change surgeries as well.

arrange another consult with your GP but prepare well with a list of how it’s impacting you. You can recap everything you’ve tried and then request the referral.

You can just go for a private consultation, then jump back onto NHS if you need treatment.
