Recurrent intertrigo

Bit of an embarrassing problem, I’ve name changed.

A few years ago I developed intertrigo under my breasts after a long day out in the sun (and probably an ill fitting bra) which despite treatment became infected and I needed a course of prescription hydrocortisone cream to finally shift it (took a couple of weeks to clear up)

Since then it’s come back every time I’ve had a boob sweat issue. Sometimes it’s manageable, other times it gets infected. There’s no rhyme nor reason for it. I’ve now got a skin infection for the third time following a day at a comic con where I wore a complicated cosplay outfit for eight hours on a warm day. By the end if the day I could feel that the skin under my left boob was already really painful, I washed it and treated it but a week on it’s become infected and it’s really painful 🙁

I wash daily with sensitive skin shower gel and when sweaty I also use sterile wipes, which I also use prior to using any cream when it’s sore. When it’s not sore, I use medicated body powder and sometimes Lanacane anti chafing gel. I had used both on the day I wore the costume, as I knew I’d get warm, but I still got sore and now infected.

I tend to wear crop tops instead of bras especially when sore. At the moment I can’t put anything on because the skin is red raw and weeping. I do have large-ish boobs but am more interested in comfort, I struggle with underwire (sensory issues)

What more can I do to prevent this?

Have you tried an anti perspirant? Also have you had it checked that it’s not fungal? I get interigo under my belly and I’ve used anti p. I mistakenly thought it was fungal but it wasn’t and I made it worse. In the end plain Vaseline and anti p has done the job; although the area is tested there is a scar. I feel like unless I use ant p it will flare again. It might be worth putting a clean gauze between your breast and chest to stop the skin from rubbing while it heals?

Daktarin powder. Worked for mine and never came back, but it was bloody awful before treatment, so I sympathise. You can buy it over the counter.

DangerBoobs · 30/05/2023 17:15

Thanks both. I used the Daktarin cream prior to the hydrocortisone but it didn’t work to treat it, but perhaps a powder as a preventative might work. I hadn’t thought about an anti-perspirant there but I’ll look at doing that too, once it’s healed again.

In a little catalogue that comes through my door called Independence they sell small under boob and under belly absorbent cloths which might help. I have an all over problem with fungal type infection and find an anti fungal body wash really helpful. Can be bought on line. It does really work.

Clotrimazole cream every day.

Thank you, I’ll try that

Clotrimazole cream every day.

Would this be when sore, or just every day?

You should find out if it is fungal get a doctor to look at it before you treat it as fungal/ mine wasn’t and fungal cream made it worse. When I stopped the fungal cream and used Vaseline it started getting better. I do have a scar from it now.

I will try to get an appointment. Last time I had to send them a photo of my underboob because there were no in person appointments 😬 they emailed me a prescription which did work then. Will call and see what the current situation is.

How long did you use the anti fungal cream for? Is it ‘tacky’? If it is fungal iron/ tumble dry your bras and anything that has touched the area to kill any fungal spores. You robably beat to get it looked at. Talc is quite good for prevention the spray in one is less messy. Also be very careful to dry the area really well after showering. You need to
tey and keep
the area dry

Highlyflavouredgravy · 30/05/2023 18:33

After your shower, dry yourself then put on baby powder and spray on abti perspirant.
But clear it up first.

Hopinonadream · 30/05/2023 18:38

Sudocrem under boobs daily followed by talc as a preventative (don't need a thick layer just a smear) and clotrimazole cream for several days if it starts flaring up.
