Over the counter supplements for vitamin D deficiency

I have bloods done recently to check my vitamin D levels and it has come back low (39). I’ve had this on and off for the last couple of years and prescription vitamin D (25,000 IU) has helped to alleviate my symptoms in the past. My gp told me she would send a prescription to my pharmacy for a high strength dose but frustratingly when I collected it earlier today I noticed it is only for 7000 IU once per week. She has gone on leave and the clinic won’t change the prescription even though they have a previous record of me receiving the higher dose (25,000) in 2020. I’m currently taking about 5,000 IU a day over the counter vitamin D3 supplement so I know that 7000 IU a week won’t do anything. I’m so annoyed. I’ve really suffered badly from this (extreme fatigue, muscle aches, low mood) and it was difficult enough to convince her to test it for it in the first place. It’s like she doesn’t believe it could be causing so many issues. Has anyone managed to alleviate their symptoms by doubling (trebling?) their over the counter supplement? I don’t think I’m going to get anywhere with my gp on this but I refuse to put up with the symptoms either.

My husband was on the high strength ones twice a week and they were brilliant so we did ask if they could be continued but I think they can lead to other issues if taken for too long ? I do empathise though .They said he's just to take the over the counter strength now which is much lower like 10x lower isn't it . Maybe you can go on them again when you've had a break ?Hopefully someone on here will know but I just wanted to let you know I do really understand what you mean !

There is no danger of taking it for too long. Many doctors and professors started taking around 7,000 IU a day in the pandemic and started a campaign.

Personally I take 3,000 IU a day and have done for years, but it’s sensible to make sure you take one that comes with Vitamin K2 - as MK7. Taking Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 helps to ensure the calcium transported by the Vitamin D is absorbed by your bones where it's needed.

I suggest just buying from Amazon.
