Colonoscopy Prep - Any Tips or stories?

Starting this morning. I have IBS-d (& hemeroids currently) so wondering how movicol morning & evening for 7 days is going to affect me.

Any advice on keeping the skin on my butt? Fairly sure I'll have loo roll rash by lunchtime.

Will it end like this?

Is this for a colonoscopy? Movical is usually for constipation and not used as a bowel prep for colonoscopy and you wouldn't do the prep for 7 days.

7 days of movicol? That's a bit strange. Usually it's dose of picolax the night before and the morning of...

Also have to do a special no fibre diet for the last 3 days. Basically just refined carbs and eggs. I'm going to smell delightful.

Movicol is gentle. It just keeps things soft an moving kind of, do that bit is not too bad. Although it may give you gas and gurgling

Sorry. Fat finger typing. Hope above makes sense

Wallywobbles · 25/05/2023 07:00

That's reassuring thanks.

Had 3 in France but never movicol. The last was 2 years ago.

Whatever you do, don't drink coke! It burns on its way out!

A nice soothing nappy cream after every clean up will help with the skin irritation.

Drink plenty of fluids and use a good barrier cream like epaderm ( in a tub) both to wash and to apply to your bottom.
Keep taking a stool softener for at least a month after the surgery. Movicol is as good as anything and you can gradually reduce it.
Keeping stools soft post op will reduce your pain and make healing easier.

Sorry, I assumed you are having haemorrhoidectomy? If not, ignore the post op advice.

It sounds like a much easier, more comfortable bowel prep. No chance of anything being left behind.

Thanks everyone. Possibly panicking for nothing. I already spend too much of my day on the loo. Luckily I WFH.
