SVT after ablation - experiences please!

I had a cardiac ablation for SVT last week (2nd time as first was unsuccessful) - the surgeon said they got the faulty connection this time so fingers crossed. I've just been experiencing an awful lot of 'run ups' to going into SVT since I had it done and wondered if anyone had the same? No actual episodes so hopefully it worked but the run ups leave me feeling pretty awful and I was just wanting to know if it's likely temporary or something I'll have to get used to long term

I had ablation last year for SVT. I still occasionally get the same thing you describe, but no full on episodes anymore. I am still on beta blockers as I am not sure if the surgery was fully successful. Give yourself plenty of recovery time. It’s not as quick as I was led to believe.

Thank you for your response. Was it worse immediately following the surgery and then calmed down a bit? At the moment I'm getting erratic beats multiple times a day. The surgeon told me that the procedure was successful but didn't tell me what to expect at all. Does it still bother you or are you used to it now would you say?

I'm not sure if the procedure is similar to ablation for Atrial Fibrillation. If it is, there is a support group I'm a member of on FB (Atrial Fibrillation Support Forum) where many members have had ablations. I haven't had one yet for my Afib but might need one in the future.

Anyway of those who have had ablations, the vast majority report a worsening of symptoms just after the procedure called the "blanking period". It might be similar to yours but I don't know. Anyhow I was just posting to let you know that if it is of any help.

Thank you so much, that's really helpful x

I've had two ablations for PSVT. Both were classed as successful- it just turned out that I needed the second ablation as there was another faulty pathway the first ablation didn't pick up on. My ablations were in 2012/2013. I still very occasionally get an ectopic beat and then the feeling like I'm going to start having the racing heart but the racing never truly starts. It has got far less frequent over the years- post op I was still having multiple episodes like that every month. I'd say it's maybe one or two a year now and they don't bother me at all.

@NadjaCravensworth1 how are you now? Did the ablation cure your SVT? I am considering this early next year. I am quite worried about making the ectopics/missed beats worse as I almost find those more uncomfortable than the actual SVT!

Hi, no it still didn't cure mine unfortunately but I'd say it's better. I'm on the list to have it done again as they think they missed a pathway. The ectopics have definitely calmed down a lot, tbh I think I've just been very unlucky, it may well be 100% effective for you 👍

@Winnipeggy ah that's a shame although it's great you've had some improvement. I've got my fingers crossed that the second time cures you completely. I've been chickening out of the ablation for 6 years now... so I'm on daily medication and have stopped work because of it! Need to put my big girls pants on I think

Hi All,
I had an ablation for SVT yesterday. I was extremely anxious in the run up and wasn't especially relaxed during it, due to the staff mostly not being in the same room to reassure me, but i could hear their murmured conversations talking in code. It all sounded very serious, so i had assumed that there were some problems. However, after 2 hours they finished and told me that it had been successful, or at least appears to have been. I returned home last night happy, relieved and knackered. Bit tired today due to all nerves (didn't sleep well the night before). Virtually no pain in my groin. I'd expected much more. Just taking it very easy so that it heals quickly and nicely. I'm on a bit of an adrenaline high today, so may well crash and burn yet. However, if anyone is thinking of going through with one and is worried, I would be happy to chat and go through my experience. I think that knowing what to expect may really help or would have helped calm my nerves.
