I know i have posted before but im trying to find anyone who may have not been on my old thread about acne as i am desperate.

Had acne since ds born (19 mnth) mainly chin and jaw. Tried EVERY product you can buy including pro active and nothing has worked. Been on numerous anti biotics and topical stuff and seen 2 diff dermatologists and nothing has helped me. I have also seen dietician and had the york test done for allergies etc.

I am currently using agnus castus, natural witch hazel wash, cleanser etc and magnesium and drinking loads of water.

Nothing is helping me and it is getting me down. Doctor has more or less wash hands of me as none of them have anything to suggest anymore. I will not try roaccutane because we want to have another soon and also i have not long been off anti p's and have history of depression so am not prepare to risk my mental health on it and my gp agrees.

Anything at all you have/anyone had that worked i be so greatful

Have you tried a contraceptive pill. I take a mini-pill but even when on the combined pill my skin was always good. Whenever I had a break from it the eruptions would start!

mad4mybaby · 19/02/2008 14:46

yeah i tried detoxing a few months ago and it didnt have any effects what soever. It is why i have seen a dietician for advice and she says everything i am doing is good...

thanks though

i cant go on the combined pill (dianette etc) becuase gives me migraine and gp said i fall too high in cat for a stroke so not allowed it anymore! Was on Cerazette the progesterone only pill but i think that made it worse TBH

expatinscotland · 19/02/2008 18:50

really, it sounds like you've tried everything BUT roaccutane and you can't use the combined Pill.

i took a short course of it for acne after having DD1 and it worked for me and hte acne - which was on my chest, shoulders and back - didn't come back.

Karen999 · 19/02/2008 18:51

Sorry, how long have you had it? Does sunlight help at all?? If I ever get a break out I go to the sunbeds I know its not ideal but I only need a couple of sessions....prob not the best advice...sorry!!

mad4mybaby · 19/02/2008 18:52

I've had horrid acne all my life and finally it has cleared up. I think its because I am less stressed (kids at easier age) and have a better diet. If youre diet is ok I wonder if you are more stressed with dc, as 19months is about right for exhausting toddlerhood. Get some sun on your skin, sleep and try to not worry about acne, else it is a viscious circle!

newgirl · 19/02/2008 19:17

i had acne on my chin/neck post babies - this is what worked for me

  • multi vitamins for the skin - i think these help redress the hormonal imbalance

  • 8 glasses of water every day

  • regular oxygen facials

  • a dab of spot cream when a spot head appeared

  • loads of fruit and veg including veg soups for lunch

not easy but it has worked

hattyyellow · 20/02/2008 16:41

My skin broke out when I had my girls and has never quite recovered. I read about a product called Lactoferrin in the Times and ordered some - I honestly think it has helped, might be worth a try?

www.nutricentre.com/start/FacetoFace_TheTimes24112007.aspx

I'm also currently trying a low GI diet as I'm pretty convinced that I've got a lot of symptoms of PCOS since my pregnancy, inclhding spots...low GI diet can help with this apparently as it reduces PCOS by reducing insulin levels..might this be what's happened to you?

mad4mybaby · 20/02/2008 16:47

how long have you been taking it for? I keep buying stuff off internet and nothing working so bit dubious about things noone can personally recommend!

MABS · 20/02/2008 16:50

Roaccutane was the only thing that worked for me after 20yrs of suffering. a short course of it was incredible for me.

hattyyellow · 20/02/2008 19:45

Hi I've been taking it for about 6 weeks now and have noticed a difference. I was also dubious but I was heartened by the Times taking it seriously - the spots are a lot less angry and sore. I also didn't want to take anything very chemical as we are ttcing again.

rantinghousewife · 20/02/2008 19:50

Silly question but have you seen a dermatologist, I got lucky and my GP actually specialised in dermatology but, you should really see a dermatologist. It will cost you but, it is worth it.

Surroundedbysnot · 20/02/2008 20:02

Got terrible acne when i was 30. Years on Dianette AND antibiotics didn't help, plus made me v fat.

I now use Benzoyl Peroxide, 2.5%, twice a day all over my face. Can make skin a bit sensitive at first but acclimatises. Has worked for me, anyway, despite my extreme scepticism. The science is that spots need oxygen to develop and BP stifles oxygen (or the opposite). So the gel must be sued all over the face, not just on an upcoming spot.

Look at Dan Kern's Acne.org site. Just follow the instructions on the site.

rantinghousewife · 20/02/2008 20:03

Ah the good old Benzyol Peroxide. You have to wash your face very throroughly in the morning after applying that IIRC.

hattyyellow · 20/02/2008 20:04

Ah yes forgot about the Dan Kern Benzoyl Peroxide, I looked at his site too in desperation at Chrismtmas and ordered the 3 step kit, does seem to be helping as well

chacha3 · 20/02/2008 20:12

i have the same trouble the doctor has just prescribed me vibrox not sure if it will work

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/02/2008 20:51

You need to find the underlying cause of the problem.

Self medicating with Agnus castus is not adviseable as it can make underlying hormonal imbalances worse (particularly if PCO is an issue).

Have you been checked to see if polycystic ovaries is the underlying cause of the acne?. The derm should refer you to a gynae for further evaluation (an ultrasound scan can be done to see whether your ovaries are polycystic). Many women who present with adult onset acne often have polycystic ovaries.

mad4mybaby · 20/02/2008 21:02

i have seen 2 dermatologists and just given even more anti biotics that havent worked...

I had a scan done before xmas so i know that there is nothing wrong with my tubes etc..

I know how you feel- my skin has been terrible ever since I had ds who has just turned 2.

I've suffered with really painful hard spots since i was about 16 but now I also get lots of smaller spots on my nose and cheeks, and my skin doesn't seem to heal from these very well either so even after the spot has gone I'm left with red patches.

I changed my pill over a year ago now which has had no effect. Have recently started using the Witch Hazel wash- which just seems to dry my skin out, and I'm taking a vitamin E capsule once a day, trying to drink more water...

mad4mybaby · 20/02/2008 21:42

hey S&HM, thanks for that, its horrible getting fobbed off all the time when doc dont think it important...

i drink loads of water and dietician told me to take magnesium every day which i hadnt tryed so....

Just cant believe there isnt a cure for me....
