I am 55 and have profound deafness due to a combination of moderate conductive and moderate nerve hearing loss. This is corrected by wearing hearing aids. An audiologist has recently told me that an operation can be carried out to replace the stiffened small bone in each ear which would improve my conductive hearing. However he felt there was no point as, due to the nerve loss, I would still need hearing aids.
This morning I am wondering if I should have the operation so that I only have moderate and not profound deafness…?
