Blood test results: Raised liver enzyme -how worried should I be?

Please can someone help me interpret my blood test results as the doctors just text me to say “your liver enzyme is raised you’ll need to retake the test in two weeks” with no context about whether or not this is a worry and with no information about my overall picture. So here I am, desperately looking for help as I am wracked with worry.

Background - I’m a 33f 5”7 and around 220lbs. BMI is obese. Had lost a load of weight before I had my little boy but unfortunately have gained it again. A few years ago prior to weight loss was told I had a slightly fatty liver. Fast forward to a few months ago I’ve started to get really full quickly and really bad heartburn and indigestion. I’ve started to feel very sick in the mornings and still remain nauseous all day (definitely not pregnant). I have a family history of pancreatic cancer and it is something I am worried about so went to the doctors and asked for blood tests. Went yesterday and then the results came back today with a raised ALT level, 99 - which is double what it should be.

I called my surgery to ask to speak to the doctor but they said I’d have to call back on Monday and put an e consult in online. Now I face a whole weekend of worry.

would appreciate hearing from anyone else who has been through something similar or anyone medical who could take a stab at interpreting these results and my symptoms and what this could be. Doctor’s reaction feels incredibly blasé and rushed to me, especially given the symptoms and concerns I have?

thank you 🙏

If anyone reads this in future, went for a private scan that found I have stage one fatty liver and some fat around my pancreas. So have some work to do to get that sorted. Also still worried about why I feel sick all the time and not hungry so gonna investigate that too,

Hey @northernsunshine ,

I know this is old but I had similar after my pregnancy and it turned out to be gallstones. Hope you’re ok.

northernsunshine · 05/03/2024 22:02

@Fmlgirl thank you, have another ultrasound tomorrow

How did you get on @northernsunshine ?
im in a similar boat, persistently raised liver enzymes for the last 3 months and it’s causing me real worry.

northernsunshine · 19/03/2024 19:03

Hi @PlumBear so I still have fatty liver haven’t managed to reverse it yet, one of my levels is quite high which I’m worried about. I find Reddit quite helpful for discussing issues so do check out some of their forums. What are your levels? Hope you’re ok

Hi all. I know it is late and if you are still accepting messages? Hope all of you are happy and healthy. Curious and want to know about fatty liver and is it reversible, by eating certain food? Found out I have fatty liver too.
