Lump on back

Just gonna preface this with the fact I have a doctors appointment booked (closest available is a week on Friday) and am not basing medical advice off strangers online - just looking for opinions/anecdotes.

I have had a history of lower back pain for pretty much as long as I can remember (5 years at least!!). I can feel a lump just left of my lower spine, moves when I touch it and is not visible without me pointing it out, but is definitely there. I was seeing a chiropractor for about a year last year but no idea of the cause of the pain - it did help having a professional crack my back but still don't know where the pain is coming from.

Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this? I am thinking the lump could be a herniated disc but I am just so unsure! Have also been having dizzy spells which started about a month ago but I presumed that was due to stress as I have been very busy recently at work and also doing a degree. Obviously I am thinking worst case scenarios here but I'm worried it could be some sort of tumour, fingered crossed it isn't, but hence why I've booked the doctors appointment.

Thanks in advance and I hope anyone on here can help with either medical or anecdotal advice before my appointment :)

Does the actual lump hurt? Is it soft and squashy? It might just be a lipoma. Try not to worry in advance.

I have lower back pain that goes down into my hips. I have a hard lump, slightly smaller than a tennis ball to the left of my spine. I was told by my physio that you're unlikely to be able to feel a bulging disc by touching your back. But it's likely a muscle knot.
My lump is only able to be felt when my back isn't as sore, I presume because there is less general swelling.
I'm going to ask my physio about it again on Friday.
Let me know how you get on.

When DH’s disc had herniated it gave him great back pain relief when I pushed it back in.
I have a lipoma which is like a fatty lump which is not painful at all.

It's a hard lump that moves up and down when I press on it. I think it's probably just a fatty lump but worth getting checked I think? Not sure if I am being a hypochondriac though!! Thank you for the replies :)

Hi guys, an update on this thread.
Today I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. They did blood tests and an ultrasound, which showed superficial cysts (diagnosis based on blood tests but pending review by rheumatology with a 3 week wait)
I am only in my early 20s and the NHS have genuinely been wonderful and super quick with my referrals.
It feels so wrong that I have such a condition at my age, and I will likely be put on immunosuppressants which im not looking forward to as i work with young children who as we all know catch every bug under the sun!
Thanks for your support to everyone who's replied Halo
