Apologies if I am being naiive, but can anyone tell me anything about the coil? Am wondering if it might be the contraception for me and dh but don't really know a lot about it. I have heard of the mirena(?) coil - is that the only one or is there more than one sort? How are they fitted? - it sounds like a 'procedure', is it? Can you just go to your GP and get one there and then? Do you know it's there?
I feel really silly for asking these questions but have never considered having one before so haven't thought about it all.

iv had both a mirena and a copper coil,id suggest if you can cope with hormones being relaeased into your body the mirena coil as it gives you lighter periods, the copper coil doesnt release anything but you will have heavy periods for around 5 days.
it is a 'procedure' getting it in but they are fitted at the fmily planning clinic in less than 10 mins, yes its uncomfortable, you will have cramps and generally feel like shit afterwards but then that you for 3 years, make an appointment at your fpc and speak it over with someone.
im due to get mine out in may so i cant comment on getting it rewmoved sorry

Thanks IHI. They last for 3 years - really?! Kind of wanted to avoid extra hormones as they tend to mess up my own big style and hang around for months which could be a problem if we want to try for another baby. That's why don't want to go back on the pill really, but fed up with condoms - they're just not nice are they?!
Have been having fairly heavy first few days of period anyway lately - would a copper coil make it hevier then?

yeah thay probably would, i doubt you should consider the coil if your planning another baby. i had a copper as i didnt want hormones but went into hosp for a op and the consultant changed it without my consent and said its better this one! i have to admit i suffered terrible headaches with it but they did die down and now i hardly get a period.
i got one fitter to bridge the gap till they say im old enough for sterilising

Well wanting another baby but don't know when so not exactly planning if you know what I mean. Just want to get a spontaneous and natural sex life back in the meantime and trying to figure out how!
