She threw up at around 6.15, and since then has vomited four more times. I don't think it's anything she ate. She didn't want to carry on dozing next to me on the sofa, so she's gone to bed, but I'm worried she'll throw up again.

I've given her a bit of dioralyte - is there anything else I should be doing, apart from keeping an eye on her? Is there a virus going round or something?

There seem to be lots of tummy bugs going round at the moment. I think it's best to 'starve' it out of her if it's a bug so just sips of water. Hopefully she's got most of the food out of her tummy if she was sick a lot.

Poor thing!

That winter vomiting virus is doing the rounds at my dd's school at the moment. Also ds has had a nasty cough which has resulted in him throwing up. I think checking on her periodically is the only thing you can do.
Hope she is better in the morning.

Yes there is definately a few bugs going around at the moment. My niece and nephew have tummy bugs (throwing up all the time) at the moment and after a whole day of being sick, my sis in law called out GP and it turns out that they both have croup and also slap face infection - never heard of it myself but your glands etc become very swollen also !!! They are both really poorly and are not eating at all and gp said it can last up to 5 days - fingers crossed your little one doesn't get anything like this. I know it is hard for you to watch your dd being sick but think of it as better out than swirling around in your tum !! Good luck - I will be thinking of you - hope you get a good nights sleep xxxx

Lots of tummy bugs at dd's school too!
Hope she's feling better soon, agree with bluemoon, just sips of water. She may suprize you and sleep right through if her body needs it+

Since then she's thrown up twice. There's hardly anything there to throw up because she hardly ate any dinner and has only had water. Now won't drink the dioralyte because it tastes funny. Is flat coca cola supposed to be good? I don't know if that's suitable for a two and a half year old.

Got a feeling it's going to be a long night!

I really wouldn't bother giving her anything at all except for sips of plain water to keep her hydrated Anything else will just irritate her tummy. A good night's sleep with a totally empty stomach is the best thing you can do to help.

merrymarthamoo · 09/12/2004 21:56

I would just stick with sips of water - I think she will probably bring anything else back.

You can put a little sugar in full fat coke - it takes all the fizz out, and it's good for re-hydrating (thanks to our much missed lou33 for telling me that once!) but I have never given my kids anything other than water when they've had S&D. Though if you do want to try it I don't think it wil do her any harm to have a bit of Coke at 2.5. But she won't dehydrate too much if she keeps having little sips of water.

She probably just needs to puke it all out before she'll start to feel better. Poor little mite Sad

There's always vomiting bugs going around - especially in winter

Echo what the others says - sips of water. Hopefully she'll be feeling a bit better by the morning.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 09/12/2004 22:56

I've always been told - just sips of water for the first 24 hrs if you possibly can (or dioralyte) to help starve the bug. After that start with bland foods according to hunger, but the BRAT diet is particularly good (Bananas Rice (plain boiled) Apples and Toast (white dry)) at replenishing nutrients without feeding the bug/aggravating a delicate tummy. Has always worked fairly well for us.

Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks all. Have got her on water now - she's had a whole 2 hours in between getting sick, so that's a longer time span than she's had all evening!
