It’s been 2 weeks and no sign of it going by itself so I need help but I don’t know who I should contact I’ve never had these symptoms before

I would start with the dentist.

Ds(19) is being seen by his dentist, they are monitoring and he has had mouth guards made for him to wear at night (that he won't use 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Thank you I’ll have to Google mouthguard I already wear a retainers from having Invisalign

i saw both!
google exercises

Willmafrockfit · 14/05/2023 09:27

GP said it was caused by stress,
dentist said TMJ exercises
that cured it

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/05/2023 09:32

Both.

I was offered diazepam by the consultant - tiny twins and grinding through stress at the time. Mouthgard from the dentist.

Mine was extreme. I couldn't open my mouth more than a cm, couldn't eat from a knife and fork or eat eg a burger.

It did resolve when the stress lessened.

Blanketpolicy · 14/05/2023 09:33

I would see a dentist rather than google mouth guards yourself.

Ds's dentist saw signs of clenching/grinding which he thought was caused by stress and exacerbating his discomfort.

A decent dentist will also be able to administer Botox which really helps some people. It's agony, isn't it? Are you icing your jaw? That's a good thing you can do at home. And ibuprofen too.

Hope it settles down soon.

Mine was like @cocksstrideintheevening i couldn’t eat properly for over a year and didn’t have much luck with the dentist or doctors.
I tried the mouthguard but it made it worse as I just bit down so hard on it at night.
I went to an oesteopath, I just found him on Google, I hadn’t known but TMJ was his specialised area and he did about six treatments and it’s great now. Very rarely any pain and I can eat properly again.

Dentist and physiotherapist helped me.

Myjobisanightmare · 14/05/2023 09:41

I’m suffering badly with peri stress and anxiety and have been aware prior to this pain starting that my face can be tense and fixed at times and I have to consciously relax it so that could be it

I also have plantar fasciitis and developed nerve pain in my foot I was prescribed amytriptyline and referred to Physio, physio recommended Pilates/yoga so I started to do the NHS beginners yoga on YouTube i do have some issues with my neck and tinnitus but the Pilates didn’t seem to be bothering my neck but maybe that’s caused my face pain i stopped doing the Pilates a week ago but nothing has changed

Ive no idea really but they’re the only things I can think of

Give yourself time - a week isn’t very long in terms of muscle and stress recovery. Keep chipping away.

A really simple exercise I picked up for stress related jaw tightness is to puff your cheeks out and just hold for 20 seconds. Really relaxes the area and you can do it anytime.

Willmafrockfit · 14/05/2023 09:47

i remember jutting my lower jaw out as part of my exercises.
mine was caused by a very boring job!
i gave up chewing gum for a start.

gardendream · 14/05/2023 09:48

Btw for tinnitus there’s a video on YouTube with Dr Berg about some tapping you can do on the back of your skull (the ridge at the back of your head). Lots of comments from people who have had at least intense result so might be worth a try.
