Hi, i've been prescribed Zyban from the doctors to try and stop smoking.
I have been taking it for 8 days, on the first day i really didnt want to smoke, but that only lasted one day.
Since then I have had bad mood swings and the last couple of days have been very emotional and tearful.
I know there are side effects, but if these arent temporary then i am not taking anymore, plus im still smoking away.
Has anyone else taken this, and if so can you give any advice before i kill the kids and wreck my relationship. TIA.

okay, firstly, ring the NHS quitline - 0800 169 0169 or have a look here and see if there is a support group in your area.

When I gave up, I used the service and it was absolutely invaluable, there is no way I would have had the will power to do it on my own.

One of the best things is that they go through all the different medications available, talk about side effects, and they help you work out what is best for you. Out of my group, nobody opted for zyban because the side effects seeemed so awful, but between the patches, gum and the fake fags you can get, we all managed to quit.

It sounds like you have really made up your mind to give up this time, so well done.

You need to talk to your partner as well and explain that it is likely that you will be a moody cow for a few weeks and he is to support you, it is a good thing.

All the side effects of giving up smoking do stop.

Good luck.

If you need virtual support, feel free to find me on here, I'm around most days

Thanks, I don't know if these side effects are normal and will disappear.
I don't want to take any more tablets as they are really affecting me mentally.
I am so angry with myself as I stopped for 6 months and started again around christmas with all the boozing etc.

I found that the most effective thing for me was the patches.

Good luck.

Thanks for your messages, just being acknowledged helps.

Hi I used Zyban, found after about 10 days I "just couldn't be arsed" to smoke! I get pretty emotional anyway so did experience some tearful moments. I really don't know if it helped however it did give confidence. I wobbled not long afterwards but easily gave up again without any help whatsover just because I knew I could do it.. Stick with it and good luck. The feeling is great when you do quit. Check out www.whyquit.com. Pretty good and very informative website. Helped me a lot.

Fingers crossed for you x

DH did turn into a complete whatever-rage monster whilst he was on Zyban, so much so I told him to give it up and go back on the ciggies. Anything would cause him to fly off the handle - even finding the new jar of coffee needed the foil lid removing!!!
