my DH has burned himself with 100 degree water on his hand, it hasnt blistered but is red and painful, he has took himself to A&E which i think is ridiculous because burns armt dangerous unless they blister are they? there really isnt much medics can do for a burn of that nature is there? or am i being unsympathetic?

I think you are being unsympathetic actually - burns are extremely painful you know

loopylou6 · 18/02/2008 13:24

oh no dont get me wrong, i know it will be painful for him and if he had stayed home i would of waited on him hand and foot ll day, what i meant was i think tis pointless going to A&E

if it hurts enough that he's willing to endure the misery that is A&E then I think you're being unsympathetic.

hand scalds are awful because it's so hard to keep them still, so the scalded skin is constantly strecthing.

They may give him good painkillers.

loopylou6 · 18/02/2008 13:27

tbh i have my suspicions that he'd rather endure A&E to get himself out of work for the day hes says it doesnt hurt so much when hes outside as it has cold air blowing on it, but as soon as hes inside it starts hurting, i hope they do give him painkillers as i dont doubt hes in pain but still think its a waste of time going to A&E

the common advice for burns says that if the burn is larger than your hand, then you should go to A & E.

There is a gel type stuff that they can put on it which will really help it to heal.

I think we tend to be unsympathetic to others when we know that we wouldn't have gone off to the hospital with the same injury. Just try not to be too smug when he gets home (and try really really hard not to give him the "if I can go through labour and give birth you can put up with a teensy weensy ickle burn on your ickly handy wandy" speech)

MamaG · 18/02/2008 13:28

I agree, he will have been hoping for strong pain relief surely

A&E have put liquid on the burn and vaseline gauzes, bandaged him up and sent him on his way, as soon as he was out he phoned me and said 'this means i cant do dishes ya know' as if he does dishes anyway

OP posts:
fryalot · 18/02/2008 14:48

in that case you should tell him that as he is injured, you will do the dishes if he will dry them and put them away

loopylou6 · 18/02/2008 14:50

ooooo like your style squonk

sorry, should have added that I am glad that he is ok

well... actually, I think we all knew he was going to be ok but even so, I should have mentioned his traumatic visit to the hospital before dishing out the chores
