Non blanching rash - pic attached- petechia?

Hi everyone,

I keep getting a non-blanching rash on my feet and lower legs. I’ve attached a picture below. Do you think it’s worth bothering a GP about? I have health anxiety so I’m worried I’m making a big deal out of nothing. Otherwise well in myself with the exception of ongoing UTI issues. Has anyone else experienced something similar that turned out to be nothing ?

If you have a rash that doesn't fade under pressure you need urgent medical advice. Go to urgent care or phone 111.

Recurrent UTIs can cause infection in the bloodstream.

Also your foot looks quite swollen?

Please get checked asap because those spots look quite purple and I'm sure you know the urgency. The longer you leave it the harder it is to treat, it's better to go and have it ruled out than leave it too late.

‘Keep getting’ - definitely a GP issue, not an A and E issue

Are you on antibiotic at the moment? If not do you keep getting prescribed short doses of antibiotics - if so does the rash develop while you are taking them or start just after you finish? Is the rash itchy ? Not knowing you, are your feet a bit swollen or is this how they usually look?

i used to have a chronic UTI and antibiotics I’d been fine with for years, suddenly caused a rash on my lower legs which got denser towards my foot. I think it was trimethoprim that I started to have the problem with and same again after I’d taken a few courses of ciprofaxin. One was a pinpoint rash that didn’t itch and the other was bigger sparser spots that itched like anything.

I would definitely say you need it checking but don’t have the experience to say whether it’s urgent or not. Hope you get it sorted,

GP issue. It does look like a petechial rash, but there isn't always an underlying issue with this. If it keeps appearing they may want to check your clotting.

Can you rule out a physical cause? Could it be friction from socks or socks being too tight and creating a tourniquet around your calf/ankle.

Thanks everyone. I’ll try and see my GP about it. I’ve had a full blood count recently for something else which was okay so hopefully it’s nothing serious!

It also might be worth adding that I do have Raynauds and have terrible circulation so I just assumed it was that for a while

Hi did you ever get to the bottom of this? My feet look exactly the same x

Atmywitsend23 · 17/05/2024 11:15

Hiya, the short answer is no! My platelet count was fine and although I’ve been otherwise unwell over the last year or so, no conclusive answers as to what is causing this. I still get them
