Broken collarbone

I broke my collarbone 5 weeks ago, the pain is not as bad as it was when I did it but it's definitely still there. I spoke to the doctor about painkilllers as I'm struggling especially at night when getting comfortable. He prescribed me
With Naproxen which isn't really doing much.
Today I went for my second X-ray and the bone is merging back together but he said there is still a chance I could need surgery.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before? How did you get comfortable at night? Was there anything you took for the pain that actually seemed to work? I've tried sleeping with a pregnancy pillow for comfort and propping myself up
Thanks

Not me, but one of my dc.
It is a horrible bone to break as it can't be put in a cast like any of the bones in any of your limbs can.
With dc, it really was a case of packing them into bed with loads of pillows and cushions and keeping taking the pain killers.

I broke mine a couple of years ago. At first I slept sitting up on the sofa then my neighbour lent me a bed backrest, something like this www.amazon.co.uk/Drive-DeVilbiss-Healthcare-BB001-Backrest/dp/B00BG296N8/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=bed+backrest&qid=1683693952&sr=8-5 I'd heap it up with pillows so I was still basically sleeping sitting up but it was fairly comfortable. As for the pain, co-codamol plus ibuprofen took the edge off it but it still hurt a lot! I did buy myself a sling which was more comfortable than the one from the hospital.

Like you I was told I might need an op as it wasn't healing as fast as they hoped but in the end I was OK.

I had the op in the end; had to wait ten weeks to see first. I actually found no pillows and on my back was the best- no amount of pillows helped really . Co-codamol, ibuprofen were definitely my friends!

good luck

Get the surgery. Makes all the difference and I was back at work within 2 weeks functioning fully.
