The GP initially gave me antibiotics then Becanase spray and then Flixonase.
Nothing has worked i still have pressure in my face and a fizzy feeling and i even hear my sinuses whistling and dizziness.

The last time i mentioned it to my GP(when at appointment with dd2)she just said "oh it's that time of year and it is a problem in the area we live"

Is it worth me going back,is there anything more that can be done?

Is it worth you going back and asking to be referred to ENT?

I had huge probs with my sinuses, nothing sorted them.I got referred to ENT and they gave me a allergy test and diagnosed me with Allergic rhinitis-mainly allergic to dustmites and moulds.

Worth a try?

poshwellies · 18/02/2008 12:18

Oh and I got decent meds after ENT consultant saw me!

Beauregard · 18/02/2008 12:21

Dd had been permanently bunged (think green slime on the upper lip), unable to talk clearly, coughing, falling over, and with intermittent deafness for several months when I took her to the GP in December. He thought it might be an allergy and prescribed the brown inhaler twice a day. It took about a month to take effect, but she is now vastly improved. Doesn't cought much any more, can breathe through her nose most of the time - no more slime - and speaks more clearly.

Have you tried this route?

lazarou · 18/02/2008 22:05

I've got a really good nasal spray that I use morning and night. It's called nasonex. I also have been prescribed some pretty good antihistamines called loratadine. My sinuses have been so much better, but I also get that awful pressure in my face and feel a bit spaced out sometimes.

Beauregard · 18/02/2008 22:05

Was the brown inhaler Becanase?

It's rotten isn't it? On a daily basis you could try using saline up your nose to 'clean' it. I hate being so bunged up all the time.

Jennster · 18/02/2008 22:13

But getting the beconase on prescription is cheap too because you get a much bigger bottle.

lazarou · 18/02/2008 22:15

I also have a seretide inhaler. Quite a concoction really.
I also wash my sinuses out daily with nacur salts. You have to get used to using the douche thing without the water going down the back of your throat, but once you've mastered it, it's really useful.

Beauregard · 18/02/2008 22:17

What is a seretide inhaler?

Where can i get the nacur salts from please?

OP posts:
PrettyCandles · 18/02/2008 22:19

No, not Beconase. It's an asthma preventer. Sorry, I can't remember the name, and it's in dd's room so I don't want to disturb her by going in.

Beauregard · 18/02/2008 22:20

oh i see thanks.

The brown inhaler is called Qvar. I had that and the serevent but then they put me on the combined one-seretide.

I buy the salts and the douche from my local chemist.

Beauregard · 18/02/2008 22:24

Thankyou i shall make a list of all these and go armed to the chemist and the GP.

Do any of you actually get any respite from the blockage though? or is it a condition that will never go?

9g of table salt dissolved in a litre of water (or 4.5g in 500ml) is 'physiologically isotonic' and much cheaper. Obviously you want to use boiled and cooled, and don't keep it too long. Use an oral syringe to squirt it up your nose.

Beauregard · 18/02/2008 22:29

Thanks i shall also stock up on syringes.

The sinusitis threads always catch my eye as I have lived with chronic sinusitis for rather along time - lets just say quite a few years.

Mine is now under control as I have a daily routine of a saline nasal wash, nasonex and loratadine. I'm allergic to house dust mites and mould which are fairly common allergies, I have a cat which I'm fine with most of the time but at the moment his moulting like mad which can be a problem. Perhaps I'm testing fate by saying I haven't had a flair up this winter.

I know how painful, uncomfortable and stubborn sinusitis can be so I really do hope your all feeling better soon. I would recommend seeing an ENT consultant if things persist.

MrsJackJohnson · 18/02/2008 22:37

Pelvicfloornomore, i ve been also suffering from nasty sinusitis for months also Nothing clears it.

Does anyone kow if you can buy inhalers in the chemist both preventer and reliever or do i need a prescription?

lazarou · 18/02/2008 22:43

www.emcur.co.uk
This is what I use and it's really effective

morgansauntie · 18/02/2008 22:53

Lazarou thank you very much for the information I'm using a different product at the moment but will take down the details for when I run out.
