I have been having a horrendous time with pelvic/lower abdo pains since a UTI started last year. I have also have IBS which is getting worse. I am due a CT scan on kidney, ureters and bladder soon and I wondered if on the scan if there was a problem with my bowels would it also show on the scan? I am starting to wonder if it is my bowels and not urinary tract that is the problem
thanks

No. If your sent for a Ct of ( KUB) Kidneys ureters and bladder it will show only that.
I've had a couple in 6 months.

A CT scan of you kidneys, ureters and bladder will show your bowels. Unlike ultrasound or MRI which are focused- the CT will include the whole abdomen.

Having said this, CT scans aren't the best at diagnosing bowel problems - you'll see if there was a major problem like a blockage or a massive tumour or abscess, but they don't give detailed information about the inside or lining of the bowels. A colonoscopy is the best test for that.

Assuming you are female, they will also be able to check for ovarian cysts

Thanks all
I don't have uterus or ovaries I had a hysterectomy in 2008
I guess I will just wait for the scan and take it from there

I just never seem to have got any better since the UTI, I have pain, worse on the lower right abdo, pressure feeling and intermittent high fevers, shakes and chills

It might be worth asking if they can include your bowels, I had a ct scan on mine. I had the contrast dye which helps show things up more. What they can see in the bowels on a ct scan will be limited though, it will show more structural problems rather than problems inside which would need a colonoscopy.

I doubt they would do anything more than is on the request form. when this all started I had an ultrasound scan just on my bladder, the nurse at the GP did wonder about appendicitis but when I mentioned this at my scan I was told that appendix are never scanned as an outpatient only on on inpatients at my Trust
