Dermodex eye lash mites

I have these, as apparently just about everyone has!
My eye lids are too itchy now so I am trying home remedies first, with a moisturizing balm and cleaning my face with diluted tea tree oil.
Has anyone had success with that?

Never heard of this however I do have itchy lashes !!!!

ItWillWash · 04/05/2023 22:48

I thought just washing your face normally was enough to keep them under control?

Have you just learned about them? I imagine the itching is in your head.

I have blepharitis which can be caused by demodex (I have a history of rosacea too). I use Optase eye wash twice a day which seems to keep the blighters at bay

Could well be eye lash mites! Sorry about that. Let me know how you get on. It can be very itchy. Do you have dry eyes?

@MegBusset thanks for that; the product is not sold in the UK so I had not been aware of it.

I'm battling this at the moment, loads of stuff on Amazon and I've been using Optase. I'm going to get some wipes for use just before sleep too, as the mites are active in the dark! I think they are moving home as my eyebrows are now itchy.

So itchy, isn't it!
Is your nose itchy?

@Calling Nose isn't itchy and my eyes/eye were more painful than itchy. It was like grit under my eyelid when I blinked and a strange, ghostly, crawly feeling near my lashes. Anyway I don't wear any eye make up when at home now and things are much better. The itchy eyebrows and forehead are new, so I'm going to use Tea tree wipes all over my face last thing at night as well as the Optase wash twice a day.

It's really quite horrible, isn't it? One product I was looking at had a review from a German guy who posted microscopic pictures he'd taken of his lash follicles, the stuff of nightmares.

I hope you're doing better now, it's helpful when someone else understand the condition. Good luck with it all. 😳😳😳

@module thanks, mine is slightly better and I know what you mean about feeling the crawling 😳
A bit concerning that they are on your forehead. I have been applying 'papaya gold' which is like vaseline with other stuff, so as to suffocate the b-s. Then when it feels suddenly very itchy I scratch it and I can feel and remove something. So yes, they do move around. 😖
I am rinsing my face with tea tree in water, after washing, but perhaps wipes would work better.

Demodex mites are microscopic, you can’t see them, or feel them crawling.

Blocked Melbomian glands in your eyelids are a much more common cause of itchy dry eyes. Hot compress twice a day for 4-5 days should sort it.

I don't think for one moment the crawly feeling was mites moving about, they are far too small, but I had this strange whispery sensation for several months before any other symptoms appeared and I've since seen it described as a symptom. I've never had swollen, red or itchy eyelids, just gritty pain.

Anyway the measures I'm taking are working at present, so fingers crossed. I understand it's a lengthy process and the chances of a doctor's appointment are low, so without a proper diagnosis I'll carry on with whatever works. I might order a hot compress mask and give that a go as well.

Anything that affects your eyes is so distressing.

I have Blepharitis. Could it be that? As others have mentioned, a warm compress twice a day and just before use Optase Tea Tree Oil Lid Wipes.

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto eye lash mites can cause that. Do you fond optase helpful? Hope you get better soon.

Ps, I love Siouxsie Sioux.

Yes I do have problems with Demodex and yes the Optase Tea Tree do really help, along with the warm compress. I have to be careful which moisturiser I use too.

Do you have Rosacea as well?
