Can any body help with spinning shoes? No shops around me sell them so i am looking online and there are about a million different types and i am so confused! My instructer said to make sure they were ESP (i think)! on websites there are road shoes, mountain shoes, ones that are MTB HELP!!

spinning shoes...on the health topic...

1)what are these?
2) should i have them in my first aid box?

sarz · 17/02/2008 16:22

Spinning is an exercise class you do on a bike, there is no exercise topic and people usually put exercise things in health topic!!!
(I did once ask for MN towers for an exercise topic!!)

I'm just off to a spinning class. Do I need special shoes? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

ivykaty44 · 17/02/2008 16:24

Don't any of the cycling/bike shops near to you sell them?

Sorry I don't know what ESP is either??

All I know is some the clips stay out and you can't walk in them easy and others the clip retracts making walking ok when your not on a road/mtb bike.

please can you describe these shoes am facinated now. ta x

ivykaty44 · 17/02/2008 16:25

Blousy you can do spinning in trainers, no problem.

blousy · 17/02/2008 16:26

Why do you need special shoes? Why can't you just wear trainers? Now I feel inadequate

sarz · 17/02/2008 16:26

The only bike shop near me only sells them for men and the smallest size they do is an 8, i am a 6! I had a look in all other sports shops and even halfords, but no luck!

this explains the shoes

blousy · 17/02/2008 16:28

Right I'm off to spinning, but will be looking at everyone elses feet with interest/envy.

sarz · 17/02/2008 16:28

You can just wear normal trainers, but i am finding i am hurting my knees because my feet dont stay still. The 'special' shoes clip on to the pedal so you dont have to strap them on(the straps give me pins and needles)

thanks ivykaty, that was a really good link. I spin 3 or 4 times a week so i think the shoes will help.

I know what you mean about the pins and needles!

I was surfing for childrens bikes anyhow....

sarz · 17/02/2008 16:36

Yes thank you they look good. Do i then have to by something seperate so that it works on the pedals?

The bottom of the shoe actaully clips into the pedal - if they are spinning shoes they should match the pedal on the spinning bike at the gym - I guess.

I have only ever really come in contact with the pedals and shoes for outdoor bikes.

I do do spinning though and really enjoy it - have been out cycling though outdoors now the worst of the winter is over.

sarz · 17/02/2008 16:40

The pins and needles is awful, i always get it towards the end of a class, but the other day ( the day i decided i needed shoes!) i did my straps really tight so i could concentrate on the up motion and within about 10 mins, i was in real pain!!
