Checking your breasts for lumps.......

I do it but is it just me that gets inordinately anxious about it? I'm not a 'head in the sand' sort of person but it puts me in a proper panic.

tbh i dont touch mine, i found a lumpy thing once and went to see the breast specialist, she told me that its not nessecary to check breasts monthly if u have a partner as they would feel things during sex etc, i just get my DH to check mine

I am the same. I figure he would notice if there was anything. I did find a lump once though that he hadn't so still best to check yourself if you can.

I've never been that sure what to look for. The whole thing feels kind of lumpy, especially around the edges (while lying down). Is this just me? I'm a bit worried that I'm not checking properly.

Apparently you use the pads of your fingers and have to press down more firmly than you think. It is all about changes in your breasts as some people have naturally lumpy breasts which isn't a problem. It is also recommended you check at the same time each month.

I'm not sure I do it properly either. I just have this huge feeling of doom as I do it.

Breast checking

next time you are at the doctor, ask them to show you.

Last time I went for a smear, I was asked if I checked and I sort of mumbled a response so they took me by hand (literally) and showed me how to do it. I hadn't realised that the underarm area was also important.

I always check mine, but loathe doing it.I've hads a few lumps in the past, which turned out to be nothing, but still get the feeling of impending doom.
