Constant waking at night - any natural remedies which work?

For the last 6 months or so, I have been waking every couple of hours at night. To be clear, it's not insomnia - I usually go straight back to sleep. However, it's really getting me down as I still feel pretty drained the next day - I would give anything for 5-6 hours of uninterrupted rest.

I'm 55 and have been assured by my GP that I'm post menopausal now. I'm therefore wondering about natural remedies which may make up for lack of oestrogen etc?

I hardly touch caffeine or alcohol, make sure the room is cool/dark etc etc. If anyone has found success with anything, please let me know - I'd be very grateful 🙏

High strength magnesium. It has been amazing for my post menopausal sleeping issues.

Second the magnesium. I take it in the evening and it's made the world of difference.

Thank you - can you quantify high strength? I take a daily multivitamin which contains 100mg?

Have you considered you might have sleep apnea?

Before anyone takes that at face value, 2000mg would be a whopping dose of magnesium and a terrible idea. Fortunately the recommended dose at the link above contains 160mg magnesium. The 2000mg refers to the whole compound, magnesium l-threonate, only 160mg of which is magnesium.

I take magnesium from boots.
Worked a treat on my sleep and anxiety.
Wish I had known years ago.

You take 8000mg a day ?

redredbluegreen · 02/05/2023 10:50

Magnesium glycinate and taurine or even better, magnesium taurate. Taurine is really good for sleep.

Baths with Epsom salts though getting too hot before bed can be problematic for sleep.

Or You can make your own magnesium spray. Magnesium chloride and distilled water in a water spray bottle (all off Amazon.)

Lots of daylight- a brisk walk first thing in the morning. Camping for 3 days is supposed to reset the body clock so being out doors as much as possible helps.

Check ferritin isn't low.

Even if post menopausal, symptoms can continue for many years / continue to deteriorate. Both oestrogen and progesterone (the bio identical ones, transdermal oestrogen and utrogestan) can work wonders for sleep.

You take 8000mg a day ?

No @MrsRickAstley the 4 tablets = 2000mg PER DAY in total, they are 500mg tablets not 2000mg tablets.
It’s a 2000mg DAILY DOSE.
