Bowel polyps

Hey all,

Currently feeling a bit sorry for myself so be kind lol.

I had the most precious adorable baby girl 10 months ago via csection and I have been having massive issues with my bowels .. conspitation and diarrhea, bleeding.

My doctors didn't really take me serious said I had internal piles, fissure (I didn't) so I had to fight for colonoscopy however it wasn't the full one so I need to go back. They found two polyps one 2mm and the other 4mm and I'm so concerned!! I need to go back and have surgery.

Has anyone had this before? Did their symptoms go away once they had the surgery? Any advice or post care would be great as well as I'm all alone apart for my husband.

Well he’d had IBS for years and worried it was something else so he basically fibbed that he had some bleeding. I’m so glad he did. Well done to you Op for pushing the doctors on this. All the people I know, except one, who have had bowel cancer have been under 50 yet the doctors dismiss symptoms like bloating etc if you are young.

I do wonder if I have IBS as well! They kept trying to say I had postnatal depression and I was imagining it but I knew i wasn't and they said I was getting anxious about going to the loo which is understandable especially after being in pain for 10 months.

I won't lie I feel like I have been awful mummy to my LG and it does break me!

Sorry yeah! Yes it was and I had to do the two day prep but they didn't remove them said they would do it all when I go back. I think it was because the gas and air wasn't working.

I really hope so! I'm in so much pain. No not breastfeeding!

I'm really hoping by magic if there's any maybe two or three they can remove them and I can go to the loo without being in pain. I'm also a bit unsure what to say to the drs as they're calling me about a blood test as my protein c level was high (level 43) as they misdiagnosed with piles and they promised me it was just piles ...

Ok, that all makes sense.

I asked about the breastfeeding as you can’t breastfeed if you have the sedation. Go for the sedation. Makes it so much easier and more comfortable. You still feel discomfort, but much easier than the gas and air. You can simply lie there and try and relax and enjoy the sensation of being high, instead of remembering to breathe in the gas and air every few seconds!

Small polyps they can usually remove during a colonoscopy and yours sound small so it should be doable. Sounds very normal that they left it until the full colonoscopy. As I said, you might have more further up which is causing these symptoms, but it doesn’t mean it’s a concern. The most important thing is that you’re getting a full check and then any polyps removed.

The misdiagnosis with piles is surprisingly common. The difference is a good doctor won’t diagnose and simply send you away. As I said I had cancer, at a very young age, and my GP diagnosed me with piles and prescribed a cream, but then he strongly insisted I return in a week if there’s no improvement, despite my age. Sorry your doctor wasn’t as helpful, but I guess sometimes you need to be your own advocate and this time you were, with good results.

I also wondered about the IBS too OP, especially because of the pain when going to the loo.

Firsttimemummy23 · 01/05/2023 11:45

My doctor also said she couldn't refer until I was in serious pain! So I guess she accomplished her goal.

I never had pain before my c section so I'm now wondering if I want another baby or not, I would love to give my baby a sibling but I'm scared too death now!

Also after my partial colonoscopy I have had really bad conspitated, I have taken flybegel this morning but wondering if I should take a laxative as well as I'm so uncomfortable!

I won't lie I'm so annoyed at my doctor! Just fobbing me off for ten months!

That’s really weird of the GP. I remember dh’s consultant saying pain was one of the last symptoms to appear.

Does it mean it's bad then? I can't barley sit without being pain did he have the same issue?

Omg Op I didn’t mean to worry you even more. I know it’s an incredibly stressful time and it’s so tempting to come onto the internet to seek reassurance. Trust me, I lived on it between finding out the polyps were cancerous and getting the news it hadn’t spread. I was on every cancer charity website over and over.
I’m not a doctor obviously so I can’t comment on your situation. I do know dh suffered from IBS also and this caused pain due to persistent bloating and constipation. This continued for a few years after despite getting the all clear from all tests so I don’t think it was connected. His IBS got better, I think, because he got better at managing stress. I think his consultant meant pain only happened in the very later stages and this doesn’t apply to you. You don’t even know if the polyps are cancerous. Bowel cancer is a slow growing disease and you are young.

I had pain before I was diagnosed with cancer. I was only 20 at the time and similar to PP did A LOT of research on it. The pain occurs when the cancer spreads outside the bowel and starts to affect nerves.

It wasn’t pain when I used the loo. It was never pain when I used the loo. It was random waves intense pain throughout the day. I’d be simply sitting or walking and be hit with this sharp stabbing pain that I had to hold on to something.

Pain when you use the loo sounds a lot like IBS than something more sinister. And it’s not at all surprising that you can develop IBS after pregnancy or a c section.

Aw I'm sorry are you feeling better now? Mine is just when I use the loo but it does last all day sometimes.

I do get stabbing on the right side of my stomach and I just looked online where it says common symptom of IBS so I suspect I have that as well.

It just a complete surprise as I never had this issue until I had my baby (I do feel terrible saying that)

YellowDiamondInTheSky · 02/05/2023 09:50

I’m completely fine now, thanks for asking. I only explained the pain as you seemed to panic slightly at PP’s mention of pain being one of the last symptoms, so I just wanted to reassure you the pain is a different pain.

Pregnancy can mess up your body and it is not unusual to develop IBS after pregnancy.

worldwidetravel2017 · 03/06/2023 20:55

I found this topic when searching polyps...
I had 3 removed in a colonoscopy
Very scared as one was large etc
Waiting biopsies results :(

Anyone had biopsies and all been non cancerous ?

Firsttimemummy23 · 04/06/2023 07:42

I having mine done on the 12th June and terrified. Did they say what sizes they were?

cathyandclare · 04/06/2023 08:39

Have they checked your faecal calpoprectin? It shows bowel inflammation- it's just that with these symptoms and a raised CRP ( I think that's the C protein you mentioned) I would want to check for Inflammatory Bowel Disease ( IBD)

cathyandclare · 04/06/2023 08:39

Although hopefully your colonoscopy would show IBD

Firsttimemummy23 · 04/06/2023 08:47

Hi I think they're checking for that but I'll double check x
