Ringworm on face

I noticed something on DD2 2.5yrs face during the week. Took her to pharmacy yesterday and was told it was ringworm. He gave me cream etc.

What next? How contagious is she and should I cover it up with a plaster or something?

I know she has to have her own towel etc.

DS2 had ringworm on his neck in reception. We didn't realise what it was at first so it wasn't treated for about 10 days. He wasn't required to take time off school and nobody else in the family caught it off him. We used an anti fungal cream prescribed by the GP and I seem to remember it took a good couple of weeks before it cleared up.

not sure about covering it. I had it as a kid and we were told it was highly contagious, and own towels washed at 60degrees etc. No-one else in the family caught it though. I didn't stay off school, but the patches were covered by my clothes anyway.

I'd be worried about him scratching at it absentmindedly and passing it on that way in school.

Call the school in the morning and see what they say.

I think mine took about a week or so to clear.

Fortunately, she is still at home with me so don't have to worry about school. I do have two other school going children and child mind two others so I was more worried about it being passed on to them. That's why I thought it best to cover it up.

i think as long as you are scrupulous with the hygeine thing it should be OK. Just keep an eye on the other two now you know what to look for.

As it's a fungal thing, maybe covering it up will just prolong it? AFAK the best thing for fungal infections is to air them as much as possible, but not sure if that includes ringworm as well.

some more advice here
