Vertigo is driving me mad.

I woke up with vertigo 2 days ago and I got prochlorperezine from the pharmacy. Then while in the shop I had a massive attack where I couldn't walk straight. It would just not stop. Laying down doesn't help, the medication doesn't help. I sat in Urgent Care for 6 hours yesterday for my blood test to come back completely clear and the doctor to give me the same medicine I bought from the pharmacy, that still hasn't worked. I don't know what to do or how to cope. It's been 3 days and I just feel sooo sorry for the people that suffer from vertigo all the time.

Has anyone else had vertigo? What did you do and what caused it?

Do you mean you have spinning sensations? Have you been checked for BPPV?

PinkFootstool · 30/04/2023 14:09

Have they mentioned the Epley Manoeuvre to you?

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2023 14:10

Covid cause mine. Odansetron helped.

SouthCountryGirl · 30/04/2023 14:12

Mine was caused by a head injury. Nothing really helps. Been on various medication that works once and never again

This. The doctor showed me how to it. It has to be the right type of vertigo though.

I had vertigo recently, ŵoke up to the room spinning and couldn't move for most of the daybthen persisted for several days. Anyway the GP suggested it could be BPPV. This link is great www.nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/services/physiotherapy/vestibular-physiotherapy/benign-paroxysmal-positional-vertigo-bppv/#:~:text=What%20is%20Benign%20Paroxysmal%20Positional,affecting%20you%20or%20your%20surroundings.

The brandtt whatshisface exercises were amazing for me.

It depends what you mean by 'vertigo'?

Do you mean a spinning sensation or just being off balance?

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/04/2023 14:24

I had vertigo several years ago, woke up and couldn't move my head without vomiting. Probably caused by inner ear issue. Signed off for a fortnight. I get it still from time to time, just light headspinning though, not the vomiting.

It's both of those. :(

The link I posted has a little thing to answer questions that suggests the best exercises. Someone I know who has worked in that area and is very qualified and knowledgeable thinks highly of it as a source of info. Worth looking at and seeing if it helps.

I was suspicious of the exercises but have them a go. Half way through I felt like I was just making it worse then it suddenly just cleared. Absolutely amazing.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 30/04/2023 20:41

Does your head spin when you are lying down doing nothing, or does it only spin when you move your head? If it spins when you move your head the Eply manoeuvre will help, but if it spins of its own accord then it’s more likely to be labyrinthitis which you just have to sit out. I’ve had both, horrible, but neither lasted more than a few days.

I have suffered with vertigo on and off for many years. My first attack came without warning, l just woke up one morning with the room spinning so much that l was clinging on to the edge of the bed, and when l tried to get up l was sick. It was really frightening.
I had several weeks where l could barely move around and had to be careful not to turn my head, but instead move my whole body. I couldn't lie down, or bend forward and had to sleep sitting propped up. The Epley manoevres didn't work for me but Prochlorperazine tablets helped, although it took about 3/4 weeks for it to really make a difference. l had another couple of bad bouts over the following year but nowhere near as bad as the first one. I've been left with a tendancy to get vertigo on and off, but much more mildly these days, and the Prochlorperazine tablets calm it down if l take them straight away.

This is a great link. Thank you so much for it.

Yes I have had it for the last 3.weeks, slowly slowly.getting better diagnosed with vestibular neuritis. Take it easy and go gentle.on yourself. If it is BPPV Epley manoeuvre will help.
