How long did your frozen shoulder last?

I've had mine for over a year. Had injection 6-7 months ago that eased it for a while, then it came back worse than ever.

How much longer is it likely to be before it gets better on its own?

About 18 months.

Same, about 18 months. Injection made no difference. Don't think physio helped much either. Even now, about 4 years on, I think I have only 90% movement back. No pain now though.

Thanks both - it's horrible isn't it?

The first one was 18 months, dominant hand so utter misery made worse by physio, tried everything. Only steroid jabs helped.
6 years on and I’m currently 17 months into opposite side. Less painful than last time but seems to be slower to go. Had steroid jabs again (point blank refused physio until the pain eases), my last one was in about June last year. Rather bored of it now!

I had my frozen shoulder treated with hydrodilation about a year ago. They inject the joint with saline then add the steroid. Worked a treat and I now have full movement. I do lots of sports so could not wait for it to heal by itself.

Urgh, dreading the idea of getting another one. It's funny how I don't really think about it now considering how painful and debilitating the first 6 months were. No injections but I did find physio helpful.

Improved to a degree but still pretty bad for 8 years when I had sk e good private physio. Nhs physio not great and made me assume that I'd have to live with the residual pain.

My friend went to an osteopath for several weeks and it was resolved. It looked terribly painful!

18mths, I refused steroid injections and stuck with physio. It was my dominant hand and I play a racquet sport, so it was a total pain. It is has been fine for a few years. Only, now I've got bloody plantar fasciitis and that makes the frozen shoulder seem a walk in the park 🙄

I had frozen shoulder. It steadily got worse until it was completely frozen.

I tried physio and then injections. But there was no progress.

I had surgery which completely released the shoulder. The recovery took longer than I thought it would but it is great now and I have a full range of movement.

Unfortunately, my other shoulder started to freeze. I have caught it earlier and have injections which really help with then pain. This means I can keep it moving. I do Pilates 3 times a week to strengthen it.

2019 - my first frozen shoulder. I have about 80% movement - still painful if I try to go beyond the range.

2021 - t'other shoulder was frozen. Still can't lift arm high enough to shave under. Have to shove razor under, scrape and hope for best.

Had two lots of hydrodilation and steroid in both shoulders.

Still painful to sleep on the right shoulder.

Didn't know surgery was an option - was given an A4 sheet of exercises to try.

Feels like I'm stuck in limbo.

Four years of restriction - if anyone had told me it would last this long I wouldn't have believed it.

OllyBJolly · 30/04/2023 23:48

18 months for both - unfortunately didn’t run concurrently in both shoulders.

Private physio was very helpful. Couldn’t take painkillers as made me feel like a zombie and played havoc with my bowels. Steroid injection made for amazing recovery but that was probably at 18 month mark.

18 months here as well. I didn't have any medical intervention as it seemed to follow the textbook pattern.
