Fever after tooth extraction help

I had a lower molar extracted on Wednesday. This have been ok, a bit sore as you'd expect but not the crushing pain that I had with the abscess under the tooth.

I started feeling unwell yesterday afternoon with muscle aches and joint pain in my legs. This morning I have a temp of 39 and the same aches.

My tooth feels ok though, still tender but not painful. My son tested positive for strep A on Monday, but I don't have a sore throat or rash just this fever and aches. I do have another test kit I could use though.

Typically it is a bank holiday weekend now so my dentist is closed and obviously so if GP. What are the chances of this being related to my tooth of the tooth itself doesn't hurt? I'm especially poor at decision making when I'm not feeling well.

WWYD?

I would definitely call 111 asap or go to a walk in minor injuries if you have one in your area. Temp could be unrelated to extraction but you need a GP to assess. Your dentist will also do emergency out of hours support too.

Unless you have dry socket (where the blood clot formed inside the extraction is) has fallen out, then I would lean towards it being a separate illness.

Check for dry socket and if it is that, straight to your GP. If not, I personally would ride it out a while longer with painkillers and assume I'm just ill and not related to the tooth extraction.

(I've had lots of extractions)

My dentist seem impossible to get hold of for emergencies, I had to travel 45 mins to the nearest city when my abscess started on a Saturday.

I don't think it is dry socket as not noticed anything falling out and I've been really careful. Plus no real pain in the tooth.

I've had dry socket. It was agonising, but it didn't cause the more generalised symptoms that you've got. It was all localised to the site of the extraction. As others have said, you should definitely get this checked today just in case it's a serious infection. Good luck Flowers

111 today. While unlikely, dp's mum was extremely ill following treatment and an extraction for an abcess on her tooth. The abcess had spread to other areas and had become a very serious infection.

111 and walk in centres will only get busier as the weekend goes on, I'd call early.

I rode it out until yesterday afternoon and got an emergency dentist appt for today. It was dry socket! And also infection still in the wound, so it's been cleaned out and I've had the special dressing stuff put in. And antibiotics.

So I guess I was at least lucky I didn't get the horrendous pain with dry socket, but instead felt like I had the flu.

I’m glad you’ve been seen and helped. Hope the antibs kick in soon and it’s all sorted and you’re feeling better. Rest up. IMO rest is a key component of getting better.
