daydreams or something more worrying

My three year old has been having a series of daydreams this week where he stares into space for a few seconds then finally responds to us calling his name. He doesn't twitch or fall unconscious but they are very unnerving and I am worried he is having seizures of some sort. I may be totally wrong - he has also been very tired and aggressive - major biting phase. Can anyone help?

I figure that anything that worries you is worth getting checked out. My brother had petit mal epilepsy ('absences') as a small child, which took a while to be diagnosed - however my recollection of this is that he used to roll his eyes up, it was quite distinctive. I do remember him having one full-blown fit when he was a bit older (he does still have epilepsy, extremely well controlled with medication) which started with staring into space, but he certainly didn't come round after a few seconds.

On the other hand, three year olds are not best known for remaining completely on this planet every second of the day, mine is certainly away with the fairies a lot of the time. Perhaps he's just having a good old think.

i would get this checked out tbh

he could just be 'zoning out', but he's only 3, ask the hv.

He could be having micro naps, you did say he was over tired. Get him to bed nice and early for the next few night to see if they still occur. but still talk to HV about them to be on the safe side.

My same thing happens to my nephew. He'll be busy doing something, then suddenly stop. Almost like he's 'frozen' in a way? He just stares into space, or at the ground. I have to admit that i was worried about, and my sister got him checked out, but so far they can't find anything really wrong . He doesn't twitch or anything either.

At the moment we've just put it down to it being a part of 'him' until someone can tell use otherwise. If you're at all concerned then talk to your GP or health visitor and get him referred, for your own peace of mind

it could be a 3yo ignoring thing [and they are experts at it] or it could be epilepsy-related 'absences', as you have probably already sussed out.
Get a GP's opinion ASAP (personally I wouldn't waste time on the HV, but my experience of them is that they say that they can't deal with most things anyway)
good luck

When my ds was about 2 he started doing this then would suddenly spring back to life a few seconds later.

Our gp sent us to hospital for tests which came up negative for epilepsy etc. Specialist said something like its probably his muscles going to sleep even though the rest of him is awake!! Apparently perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. He grew out of it pretty quick.

Although it sounds similar you can't be sure its the same thing so would be worth getting it checked out even if only to put your mind at ease.
