High platelets count...

Had a routine blood test to check my diabetes glucose levels, and the results picked up a platelet count of 550. It seems the normal high end of the range is 400.
I have another blood test booked for Thurs, and have been referred for a chest x-ray and ultrasound scan.
I'm grateful that I've been referred, and have googled (I know, the worst thing you can do..)
Just wondered if anyone had a similar platelets result, and what treatment, if any, they had.

My platelets have been raised for a couple of years. After initial investigation (including for some other symptoms) nothing else done - i was told its not really a concern until they are in the 1000s. Good you are getting tests but hopefully nothing to worry about for you.

@Stopthatnoisemummy thanks for the reply. The doctor did say it's been raised on previous blood tests, so just wanted to check everything was OK. Like you say, good that she's referred me straight away, then we can keep an eye on stuff

Mine seem to sit around the 600-700 mark and have done for a few years. No one has been bothered or suggested it is an issue until its much higher.

Mine have been at 466 and 460, doc wants to do a test again in two months and then asked for a urine sample to be brought to the next appointment.

I went to the docs with extreme tiredness and this was the only thing that was out of range.

This hasn't happened to me, but just a word of caution to try and avoid catching covid whilst you get it sorted. As covid can also cause changes in platelets, and that is unlikely to help. Get some FFP2 masks (especially for going to the doctors) and an antiviral nasal spray (eg Boots dual defence or viraleze). Open the windows where you can. Give anyone with symptoms a wide berth! Good luck I hope you get it sorted.

Study explores the effect of COVID-19 on platelet function

A new study posted in the pre-print server bioRxiv* aimed to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on platelet proteome and relate the functional responses of platelets and the formation of platelet-neutrophil aggregate in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

@User3456 thanks for the info... I had covid at the end of Jan, and the blood test that showed the high platelets was early March. I did mention I'd had covid.
My next blood test is on Thursday, so it'll be interesting to see if anythings changed..
And thanks to everyone else for sharing their levels :)

@DumbledoresWand have you had anything else following on from your tests as I seem to be in a similar position, scan and X-ray ok but raised blood platelets and slightly enlarged lymph glands?. Awaiting more blood tests.
