Struggling to phone doctor, tried cystitis sachets, water and not clearing. Can't face a long weekend to sort it out for sample result.

Last week I bought antibiotics online for my UTI

It cost £20 and they arrived next day

I also bought D Mannose to ease the symptoms

Yes they can. I took a water sample to my pharmacy and got an antibiotics prescription there and then. They told me if it reoccurred within a month I would have to see gp, otherwise I could go back to pharmacy if it reoccurred after that.

Nitrofurantoin

The website is Med Express

I've also been prescribed antibiotics for a UTI over the phone, speaking to an out of hours GP, if that is any help to you? But, as I said before, I have a history of UTIs which would obviously be on my medical record, and it was easy for me to describe my symptoms and convince the GP that I knew what I was talking about.

Thanks everyone, I completed the boots online service 🤞 they accept it and prescribe it tomorrow.

Pharmacists can train as Advanced Clinical Practitioners and can therefore prescribe - I'm a nurse doing the course and there is a pharmacist on with me x

NotCopingWell1 · 27/04/2023 22:11

A private pharmacy service in England will. Google it, places like Boots. They only do the three day course though so if you know you need a week it's GP x

Pharmacists coming out of uni in 2026 will be able to prescribe independently.

To help with relief tonight, you could try bicarbonate of soda (tsp) in a glass of water.

It's gross, but alkalises urine. Used to work for me.

Fingers crossed you can get some antibiotics asap

No. Pharmacists can't prescribe. It's really confusing as you're often signposted to a pharmacist for advice etc but they cannot prescribe meds. They dispense them.

Good luck in getting it sorted.

There are prescribing pharmacies where the pharmacist can prescribe a limited range of medications. They are quite common

Just seen your update

Ring 111, they can send a prescription to somewhere like Bootswho have a prescription only window until midnight.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 27/04/2023 22:25

Not all pharmacies have a prescribing pharmacist. I would try a Boots first, give them a call before you head in to make sure the pharmacist can prescribe. Lloyds here does it, Morrisons too. Hope you get sorted it's the worst thing to have xx

They can do in Scotland! I would try to see a doctor if you can though. I was prescribed 3 days antibiotics by a pharmacist for a particularly severe UTI but now have chronic UTI problems 3 months later as the initial infection wasn’t treated properly and required a much longer dose of a different antibiotic
