Dermatology appointment - skin surgery

Hi all,

3 years ago a new freckle appeared on my shoulder and since then it's been changing. I visited my GP in January who said it looks harmless but asked me to take a photo and visit him again in 2-3 months time. So, I did that and we reviewed the photo and compared it to my freckle on the day of my 2nd apppontment. Again, he said he wasn't concerned but as it looks lile a new darker pin-prick dot has appeared in the middle of the freckle since January, he said he would send a photo to the dermatology department at my local hospital. He said he would mark it as 'urgent' because otherwise I'd "never be seen" as skin services are so busy at the moment.

I received my letter from dermatology yesterday, and my appointment is in 2 weeks. I was shocked at how quickly I'm being seen, but even more shocked that it's a skin surgery appointment. Does this mean that the dermatologist is concerned about my freckle? Or do they say this in every letter but it might just be a case of the dermatologist checking it in person? Starting to worry that the freckle is sinister! 😔

Has anyone been through this before? Would appreciate any insights.

Thanks!
