Night Sweats

This is something I've suffered from for a while but I've just been away for three weeks and nothing! The bed had cotton sheets and a light tog duvet. Mattress was sprung, like mine at home. I changed my duvet on returning and already have cotton sheets but I'm back to normal 🙄

I was staying with family so no more/less stressful and my diet/drinking was not much different either.

I'm absolutely puzzled and just want to recreate this as it was blissful to say the least. I guess the only other difference was sleeping alone. We're far from spooning nowadays and have a king sized bed so isn't a proximity issue. We've a good marriage too so isn't that either.

Anyone else had a similar experience and got to the bottom of it?

Was the room any cooler than yours? I struggle with the same but mine is due to Peri, so other factors only help a bit.

Sorry to hear it but thanks. Oddly enough I've been in Oz so definitely not cooler, which makes it even more bizarre.

Am well into the menopause.

Weirdly I've found if I wear warm pyjamas and no duvet/light duvet, I don't suffer as badly as if I wear light pyjamas/no pyjamas and a heavy duvet. Could it be your pyjamas?

Following enthusiastically as I’m struggling to work out how to manage my own night sweats.

Paperdolly · 27/04/2023 11:19

Bamboo sheets or some cool feel ones from Dunelm have helped me

Does your heating come on during the night?

Perhaps making your room stuffy

Interesting. I wear pretty much the same thing all the time i.e. cotton shorts and a vest top.

It's driving me crackers as it's been three weeks of nothing, except in a different continent!

We never have the heating on overnight and even had the window open last night. Had to apologise to OH as it was colder last night and he had extra layers on 🤦

I wonder if it's the humidity. The UK is a lot more humid than WA.

Perhaps I need to try the dehumidifier. OH might end up dry as a bone though!

I changed to single duvets on a king size bed. My duvet is a 3.0 tog. At times I just used a light fleece blanket on my side.

I also use cold gel packs when I go to sleep. If I can cool down it’s easier to fall asleep.

Paperdolly · 27/04/2023 20:09

Further to my earlier post I also have a silk pillowcase. Really lovely and cool.

Hi OP! I saw my GP for this recently. The first thing she said is to differentiate between night sweats and being sweaty at night. Night sweats = require clothing and bedding changes as they are physically wet with sweat.

Night sweats can be a medical issue so if that’s the case it might be worth seeing your GP and getting bloods done.

If you’re sweaty at night (my issue haha), then in my case it did turn out to be stress. I didn’t feel stressed at the time but looking back it was a more stressful period of my life. I never had them when staying at my partners either though so I guess environment did play a role too. I’m sorry if this isn’t much help.

I’ve been suffering with nihht sweats since January now.
they were every night for about 3 weeks. I woke up every night with wet pjs and I’d have to change.
went to the GP and had lots of bloods done, all were normal and she wasn’t concerned.
they then suddenly stopped for a couple of weeks I had nothing. Now they come back every so often. I’ve had them a few nights in a row last week and nothing since. It’s very strange.
funnily enough I find I get them more if I am cold!! When I wear my winter pjs and socks to bed I don’t get the night sweats.
very odd

@Mumma2Ro
Have you had any resolution with your night sweats? I'm 40 and the same..worse when it's cold. I've seen an endocrinologist etc and he said it's weird, prob not hormonal as more cold related than hot. Also tried hrt with zero difference and our bed stinks of old sweat 😓 dreading the electric bill coke winter again having to wash and dry bedding constantly
