What happens to inpatients during a nurses' strike

Hi,

I wondered if anybody might know what happens to the inpatients in the hospital during a nurses' strike?

I'm likely to go in as an inpatient in gastroenterology in the next few days and the next strike is due to start on Sunday.

I totally support the strike, and wish the government would sort out their attitude to the NHS, so not knocking the nurses at all for striking. Far from it. Just a bit worried about how I cope when there.

Thanks!

Honestly not a lot. They'll have agency on if permanent staff are striking. It probably won't impact you. I was an inpatient when the jr drs strike was on and the only impact was a slightly delayed discharge.

not all nurses will be striking i guess.

Also check to see if your trust is even a location of striking. You'll probably be more impacted by the bank holidays!

If it's bank holiday will be fully staffed with agency and bank workers getting the higher rate of pay. Same for the Sunday!

Thank you that's good to know.

London teaching hospital here. We’re closing lots of wards and running the rest on skeletal staffing. ITU running at 50% capacity. We’re closed to admissions this week with the exception of emergencies. A&E will be closed and patients redirected to the nearest open one.
