cracked lip

My dd's lips are really sore and cracked and scabby at the edges. I have used blistex and vaseline to no avail and this morning I took her to the pharmacist who says she needs to see Dr for antibiotic cream as it is an infected cold sore. I am sure it is not a cold sore, and just the result of cracked skin but will take her anyway. Thing is, we can't do this til Monday and it is driving us both mad as every time she opens her mouth to eat the wound re-opens.
Does anyone have any ideas of things I could do to help before we get to see someone and also how to stop it recurring?

many thanks

Vitamin B deficiency. Ds had it, and doc gave us Vitamin B supplements and it did go, but took about 4 weeks. (ds was a real pain with food)

Also vaseline whenever possible. I think it is called Chalitis or something like that. Cracking at sides of lips is classic symptom of Vit B probs. HTH

Well, it transpires that I was right and it isn't a cold sore! She has the very grand sounding Angular Stomatitis - cracked lips to you and me and yes, also known as chelitis! They have prescribed a very low dose hydrocortisone cream, which I am OK with as long as it's not needed for more than a few days. Will give her a few extra marmite sandwiches, too!

Thanks for your input.
