Hi

Does anyone have a list of things that PIP entitles someone to please?

I would be grateful of some guidance

I have been awarded Pip for a MH issue- its very new to me

I'm not sure I understand the question.
There are two elements of PIP - care and mobility. If you get the higher level for mobility, you can apply to the Motability for a vehicle or mobility scooter.

PIP doesn't entitle you to anything directly. If you have been awarded a mobility rate you can have free car tax (high rate) or ½ price car tax (standard rate), or a motability car (high rate).

Some places offer reduced admission for people who have PIP.

You will also be entitled to a cost of living payment. I think it's 150 paid in the summer this year.
I don't think it generally entitles you to a great deal otherwise as it's a non mean tested benefit.

It can help the decision if you apply for a blue badge.

Sometimes you can get free entry for a carer at certain events (I've had this at a couple of concerts I've been to) and higher rate mobility gets you a blue badge.

I wouldn't be looking to get pip for the "benefits". I get it, it covers taxis for outings and help in the home.

You can often get free carer tickets at day trip locations, and you can apply for an Access Card which if granted gives you fast track passes for most theme parks if you have difficulty queuing etc. I’m not sure if you’d get it for MH issues as obviously it’s mostly physical issues that need special access and queuing arrangements.

The COLS payments as mentioned above would be applicable too.

triballeader · 25/04/2023 12:57

I can confirm the free access to some places for carers. You can also apply for an access card. TBH I am rarely if ever asked for these. Rolling up with ultra high flow oxygen and a meds bag is not something you can easily fake.
As this is for MH which is often a very hidden disability it might be worth contacting your local MIND branch and asking what else you could apply for. Might be worth checking if you have ESA or similar as you MIGHT get more help with housing benefit and could get severe disability premiums.

You can also get a CEA card for cinema and if high rate mobility a disabled railcard
I have a bus pass too, but check with your council
Half price tax on Low mobility or if you get high rate Mobility', Tax exemption
I have enhanced on both components so this is my experience

You can get a disabled person’s railcard with any PIP award - doesn’t have to be the mobility component
