MIL says she can’t move in mornings

Hi, just looking for some advice really. My MIL says she can barely move in the mornings, she feels paralysed and it takes her ages to get out of bed. She said she wakes in the night and can’t move at all. She’s also got a sore arm, can’t lift it and doesn’t recall hitting it.
She said she woke up one morning and it hurt and it still does now, days later.
She’s also feeling really tired lately which is out of character.
She’s only just started telling us about this in the last week or so but it might have been going on for much longer as she doesn’t like to worry us. She lives over 400 miles away so not local and she’s on her own.
She’s got all her faculties, no concerns about dementia or frailty, she walks everyday, still drives etc and is usually full of energy.
She was recently on antibiotics for a skin infection, she takes no medication and is really adverse to going to the doctors which is why I’m posting here to get a feel for how serious it could be as she just brushes it off and says she’ll be fine. Due to getting antibiotics she recently had BP checked and it was high but it’s come down due to change in diet. Her cholesterol is fine and all her blood tests came back fine.
She’s 74 so is it just old age aches and pains or something else? Has anyone experienced this or know someone who has?
Many thanks for any advice anyone might have.

Sounds like auto immune to me. I have rheumatoid arthritis and when it flares it's very hard to move first thing in the morning.
RA can come on quickly and the fatigue that goes with it is not a well known symptom.
Obviously she needs to see a doctor though

Query polymyalgia rheumatica. She needs to talk to her GP, but it won't prejudice her if it takes a while to persuade her,

This , it affects your hips and upper arm movement mainly , easily tested for ( blood test ) and easily treated IME . My sister has had it a couple of times .

Thank you both so much, this is really helpful. I’ll do some googling so I can chat to her about it in more detail and see if I can persuade her to see her GP again. She was there recently to get her blood test results and wasn’t very happy with him and his manner so it’ll take some persuading!
Thank you again, I really appreciate your replies x

Sounds autoimmune to me too. I have psoriatic arthritis. Just to say RA and PSA can be seronegative ie they don’t show up in blood tests.
