Tree pollen hayfever

Is anyone suffering with this right now?

For the past two weeks I’ve been really suffering, full on symptoms and taking Beconase morning and night and Alleve first thing in morning plus Vaseline inside nostrils. It helps a little bit but not hugely. I’m even using some hayfever wipes to wipe my hair after I’ve been out where tree pollen is.

Apparently it gets much better when all the blossom drops and I’m avoiding my daily park walks or shortening them.

Any other advice?

Acupuncture can be very effective for hayfever, although ideally you need to start treatment earlier before it really hits - but one year mine was terrible and I had acupuncture and it did help to alleviate it.

Lilfirth · 23/04/2023 21:21

I find Pirinase / flucticasone much more effective than Beconase. Hopefully it will be better by mid-May! I forgot to spray today and had a banging sinus headache shortly after going out…

Crikeyalmighty · 23/04/2023 21:23

Exceptionally sore eyes today

Fleur405 · 23/04/2023 21:24

It has been bad this year. If your symptoms are bad you can get prescription strength steroid spray but maybe speak to your pharmacist first.

Sunnysideup999 · 23/04/2023 21:28

Worst year for hay-fever I’ve had so far.
I even went to my doctor to see what they had that was super strength (non over the counter stuff).
she prescribed some eye drops which have helped a bit.
but I’ve felt really unwell with it this year. Not just itchy eyes, runny nose etc - I’ve felt poorly with it- like I’ve had the flu , fuzzy headed, lethargic, brain foggy.
hoping it passes soon - April/ May are always my worst hayfever months.

Kim82 · 23/04/2023 21:35

Yep, me and my 3 girls aged 18, 15 and 8 are really suffering this year. Dh is the only one who doesn’t have hayfever in our house.

Antihistamines help a little but yesterday was awful. I’d taken my usual daily meds and kept wiping my face with hayfever wipes but my ears, nose and throat just wouldn’t let up feeling itchy and my head was pounding too. The 15 and 8 year old were the same and were sneezing all day too.

We’re taking daily antihistamines but they don’t seem to be strong enough.

I think I’m going to have to get some stronger stuff prescribed for all of us this year I think so will be ringing the GP this week.

Brewskipa · 23/04/2023 21:46

ive been taking 120mg of fexofenadine every day since February and haven’t had any hay fever at all this year - I’m usually very sensitive to it. Taking it daily builds up your resistance apparently? Rather than only taking it on days you need it.

AnnaMagnani · 23/04/2023 21:48

Currently having a cetirizine as soon as I wake up, another with the rest of my meds and a fexofenadine later in the day if needed. And occasional use of asthma inhaler.

This is my absolute worst time of year but the blossom does look pretty.

user745347320 · 23/04/2023 21:52

I usually take cetirizine (which only kind of works for me) and have never heard of fexofenadine, is it stronger or better or something?

motherofkevinnotperry · 23/04/2023 22:01

You can take up to 4 certrazine a day but not on a permanent basis.

My allergies are bad this year. My asthma is being triggered and my eyes are so sore.

It will pass.

cocksstrideintheevening · 23/04/2023 22:04

Fexofenadine now otc plus beconase every day through the season is the inlet thing that works for me

LightlySearedontheRealityGrill · 23/04/2023 22:09

Fexofenadene every night and Avamys nose spray for when its really flaring (I even dab it on my eyes sometime).

GayPareeee · 23/04/2023 22:17

dS Has horrific allergies and has been on a 3 year tree and grass immunotherapy program under big London hospital'. He takes 180mg fexofenadine, 10mg loratidine, 10mg montelukast, prescription steroid nasal spray, asthma preventer inhaler twice a day.

This year has been his best year for years, and I think it's cos he has an air purifier in his room and another in the living room running 24/7. Got it on the hospital's suggestion as he has a hazel tree l stop close to his window the branches come in.

If you struggle badly yearly I would absolutely recommend getting one, I signed up to Which for their reviews and and paid £150 odd for one and £60 for the other (Dyson ones really not v highly rated).

I am rather evangelical about them

User93993993 · 23/04/2023 22:21

120mg Fexofenadine and eating local honey has helped DD and I. I lived in Australia for years and never had hayfever, but since we moved back to the UK it has been worse than ever. The above helped though.

AnnaMagnani · 23/04/2023 22:43

I've better this year as I had the hazel tree outside my window chopped down.

BigFloppa · 23/04/2023 22:46

I’ve always suffered really badly but a couple of years ago I got nasonex spray prescribed. Absolutely life changing. I start using it at the end of feb and the bottle will see me though to the end of the tree pollen season. Now I barely notice the symptoms!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/04/2023 13:47

@Sunnysideup999 agreed this is my worst year for hayfever yet, taking Allevia every day (fexofenadine) and the nasal spray and eye drops and it doesn’t seem to touch the sides. Doing everything else including showering, washing and changing clothes more etc. even tried hayfever eye drops but not great help either.

Last year I did a similar thread but that was in June.

Windows are all closed, and I tried a double whammy of clarityn last night and fexofenadine this morning.

Ringing doctor tomorrow as my normally very mild asthma is getting worse.
