12year old son has black spot/mole

Hi, so a few months ago my son noticed a black spot/mole on his leg which is tiny, I assumed it was a blood blister/scab thing as feels a bit scabby, anyway this morning he told me it's still there (hasn't got any bigger) I popped him along to the docs and she said at the moment it just looks like a mole and doesn't look concerning but monitor It for the next 2 weeks for bleeding, changes in size etc and to go back if that happens. I've actually booked an appointment with our skin doc next week aswel for a 2nd opinion.
I've got health anxiety so really panicking 🙈 just wondered if anyone else's child has ever had this, I need some sort of reassurance 😭

Melanoma is very rare in children and teens, but much much easier to treat if caught early, so IIWY I would definitely get that checked out by a dermatologist and monitor it for growth and changes (especially itching/bleeding).

What is its diameter?

Go to a dermatologist. I took my DS to one for a look at a couple of moles when he was about 12. The derm ended up sending him to have two different ones lopped off and looked at. They were benign, but there was concern.

Take photos every day.

CrushedVelvet · 19/04/2023 16:01

Put a ruler next to it when you take periodic photos. That way you can be certain whether or not it has grown, and by how much - and can prove it to the GP if necessary.

Yeah, I'd get that seen asap to rule out anything sinister.

Bobbylola123 · 19/04/2023 18:38

Thanks everyone, like I say I have had it looked at today and the doc said she thinks it looks ok just keep an eye on it 🙈 worrying alot!

The measurement

Bobbylola123 · 19/04/2023 19:35

Sorry the correct measurements is 2ml x 2ml, it's literally a perfect round circle

It is very small. Moles that look different from other ones on the body should always be checked, and sometimes removal will be recommended as a precaution.

Bobbylola123 · 19/04/2023 21:29

Thank u @ShoesoftheWorld, im so worried as it's literally just appeared. I didn't even think it was a mole until the doctor said it was today 🙈 hopefully when I see the dermatologist next week Hel know straight away what to do.

Good day
Please what did the derm say?

Bobbylola123 · 07/11/2023 17:41

Derm doc said he thought was a blood spot 🤷‍♀️ but it's still there. Hasn't grown or changed in anyway at all so I'm assuming it's OK, as I did see a normal doc and she said if it doesn't change etc then just leave it

Hi, my 8 years old son has the same thing on his arm. Did you get any update? I am so much worried and stressed.

watermelonsugarmum · 16/07/2024 21:03

@Bobbylola123 @NK1 Hi have there been any updates what was the mole?
also just a bit about the process so went to the dermatologist and they confirmed it’s ok ? Also how does the dermatologist doctor examine it ? is it through a visual exam and then they confirm it ? Or how pls . Also how long did it take on the NHS before you saw a dermatologist ?
