Would you go to A&E?? Help me decide quickly

Long story short, been having bladder retention issues for last month (feel like it's not fully emptying, and with that a little discomfort in lower abdomen and feeling bloated constantly, and like I could always go but no pain when weeing or huge urgency)

GP said UTI after urine dip test and prescribed three days antibiotics.

If anything I feel a bit worse and now worried it's something serious. GP wouldn't give me appointment yesterday, and to be honest last two times I had unrelated issues I was misdiagnosed until I fought to be seen by a specialist.

DH is out of town and I'm meant to commute in to work all day. DD scheduled in daycare until 530. Worried if something IS wrong no one to take care of her. Would you go to A&E, stay home from work and try GP again, or suck it up until DH home tomorrow?

Help!

I personally wouldn't go to A&E as it's likely that you'll spend hours in a waiting room to be told to see your own GP.
Could you afford to see a urologist privately?

rubydoobydoo · 19/04/2023 01:47

Call 111 - they may be able to arrange a GP appointment for you.

Kay286 · 19/04/2023 01:47

Agree, I’m not sure this sounds like an emergency. If anything I’d be avoiding a&e unless it’s was required the wait will be awful and so not worth unless you are true emergency . I’d work from home and try gp again tomorrow

PottyMouthkaka · 19/04/2023 01:48

Don't go to an A&E

try your GP or go private

Babamamananarama · 19/04/2023 01:50

This isn't a medical emergency and so no I don't think you should go to A and E in the small hours.
How long have ABs had to kick in?
You sound (understandably) very anxious about this currently. Can you speak to your DP?

poppyinyourhair · 19/04/2023 01:51

Glad I'm not the only one who can't sleep.., too busy waking up to wee.

Thanks all, I certainly don't want to take up space in hospital if I don't have to, but GP is a bit useless and don't think I can get into see private urologist right away, I will try GP again tomorrow

If he’s diagnosed a UTI then you do have an infection, so at least that is showing you a reason for your discomfort.

In A&E you’d be waiting ages, I guess they would do another dip test. Are you still passing water? If so there is still water going through your system like it should. Are you drinking water?

I’d wait, try and drink water, rest up as much as you can, avoid spicy food, and phone 111 or your GP again in the morning.

No it's not an accident or Emergency, ring back your GP in the morning.

SNWannabe · 19/04/2023 02:27

Did you have a bladder scan? If you feel it isn’t fully emptying you could ask your GP to refer you for one tomorrow. Most urology departments have an emergency service, often shared between their ward and clinic area.
Send the wee one to day care and call your GP. If you can, start to keep a record of fluids in AND fluids out as that would be helpful and a good indicator of retention. Or not…
Pee in a jug, urine is sterile so once you’ve washed the jug it’s totally fine. Not dirty etc. Take some painkillers and try to get some sleep…

murderbythebook · 19/04/2023 02:28

Which antibiotics were you prescribed? I would have thought after a few days they would have started to provide some relief, have you got a broad spectrum antibiotic like Amoxicillin?

YukoandHiro · 19/04/2023 02:32

If you can void your bladder then it's not a&e but I agree you need to escalate with your GP in the morning.
