Feeling cold - possible causes aside from thyroid and vitamins?

I’m constantly cold, regularly have to wear three jumpers and a heated gilet at the moment.

I had blood tests two months ago, underactive thyroid is within range, vit D and iron were low so I went on extra supplements, other vits all within range.

What else could it be? I am recently perimenopausal too but still on contraception? I’ve felt cold for many years though!

What is within range? The range seems to get wider every year. That said, even if you are hypothyroid, low vitamin D would add to that. It is possible, even with thyroid hormone, it doesn't help because if what many people call root cause ie the thyroxine keeps you alive but your metabolism is still crap. In UK they only do the basic tests so you wouldnt know. Various reasons: food sensitivities, hormone imbalances, low vit D could contribute. Have you had your b12 and b9 checked.

How much movement do you do?
If I’m sedentary I’m colder.

could you be diabetic?
have heart issues?

Willmafrockfit · 19/04/2023 06:52

diabetes can cause circulation issues,
presumably they have tested for this?

I don't know, but this is me. Apparently everything is normal. It's clearly not, because I only wear socks with a tog rating. Drs couldn't be less interested, because like you, all bloods normal.

I did have a vit D deficiency that was treated and had zero affect on my temperature. I should add that I'm overweight, so it's not because I'm only 8 stone or anything.

Thanks all. Should have been clearer, they tested for everything, B vits, folate, thyroid, diabetes etc. Most were middle of range (but they only tested T4 and TSH, not T3) and as others have said, I am dubious about the ranges for thyroid.

The challenge is getting GPS to take that seriously if the tests suggest ‘OK’.

I am slim but not underweight, not sure if that makes a difference.

Given I’m perimenopausal hormone issues could be a problem but I’ve felt cold for many years to be honest.
