Sore Belly Button

WigWamBam · 08/12/2004 18:00

For the past couple of days my dd has been complaining that her belly button hurts. It looks completely normal, no redness or swelling, so I have no idea what it might be. She says it doesn't hurt a lot, but it's obviously bothering her.

I'm loathe to take her to the doctors when there's nothing to see! Anyone got any thoughts?

Can anyone help? She's three and a half and doesn't normally tell me things don't hurt unless they do.

I mean, of course, that she doesn't normally tell me that things hurt unless they do ... I should engage brain before typing.

sorry wwb - can't help but if something is obviously bothering I'd take her to the GP - thats what they're there for!

There's nothing to see, though, and nothing to feel! The GPs at our surgery always manage to make me feel like a neurotic mother for taking dd in, and I just wondered if anyone had any ideas what might be causing this before I cart her off down to the doctors to be patronised again!

yes but you're not a doctor - take her - don't let them make you feel like that - you're paying their wages!

if there's nothing wrong great - you're all happy and you can stop worrying Wink

WWB - at least you know it's not a umbilical hernia if there's no sign of anything.

Is the pain just right in there or radiating out? Or could it be actually vice versa, pain radiating into the bb?

Definitely take dd to see the GP. So what if he thinks you're a neurotic mother... you pay his wages. Then again... I just changed surgeries because the one I was at was utterly useless and non-caring

She says the pain is right in the middle. I'll try and get her in to see the GP in the morning, see what they say.

Hello Wigwambam. Could she have bumped it when she has taken a tumble - perhaps landed on a toy? I'd see the doctor, you're obviously a little bit worried about it and at least you can rule out things like a hernia

WigWamBam · 08/12/2004 20:06

I'm not aware of her having bumped it, although of course it's possible. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll take her to the GP tomorrow.
