Bump on head after 3 weeks?

Hey!

My daughter (18m) fell on concrete in the park and banged her head. The bump was really big but there were no other concerns, she just wanted to play on the swings!! I kept an eye on her and decided she didn't need to go to A&E. She has been fine since, and rhe bump and bruising has gone down brilliantly. However, she still has a small hard lump on her forehead and a visible dent when she frowns 🙁

I've seen some reeeally old posts on here with similar stories and children still having the bump months later. I'm hoping for some happy stories that it will eventually go away?

I have flashbacks of her hitting the pavement and it's really stressing me out. I feel so guilty that this has happened to her so young 😔

Just for future reference, a child should go to A&E after this type of injury. Pleased to hear that your daughter is okay.

I fell off my bike when I was about 8 and had a lump as big as an egg on my forehead. I knocked myself out for a few seconds. I still have a bony lump on that side of my forehead 40 odd years later. It’s not noticeable if you didn’t know it was there you wouldn’t be able to see it but I can clearly feel it.

Thanks @whyhere. She didn't have any of the signs listed on the NHS website so we didn't think she would need to go. But I do agree now looking back, definitely should have taken her anyway!

Wow it sounds like it might be here to stay @Splodgerbodgerbadger - thanks for sharing! It's exactly like you say, a bony lump. It has only been 3 weeks so hopefully it reduces a little over time. Nobody else really notices it until I say something, so that's a positive!

Hey, please could I ask how your daughters forehead is now, we are going through something similar with my 14 year old who banged his head, 6 weeks on and still a bony lump, gp and hospital don’t seem concerned but just so guilt ridden

nmdrb · 29/10/2023 21:35

Hi! She still has a really small bump that you can't see but you can feel. It's definitely gotten a lot smaller than it was when I originally posted. Our GP said it could take a while for her body to absorb the bump & not to worry.

20 month old fell off the chair and hit her forehead on a tiled floor. Goose egg appeared straight away but has went down significantly. Still a small bump there and it’s now 6-8 weeks post fall. Will it eventually go away or stay for good? It feels like a lumpy bump. Got her checked with gp who did advise that it would go away over time but I’m just worried incase it doesn’t. Any similar experiences?

Hello, my little boy banged his head when he was 14 months old which was September last year, I would say the past month I’ve seen the most improvement with his lump that was left over, you can kind of still see it in certain lights but looking at him face on its flat, was the impact to her forehead by any chance ?

nmdrb · 21/03/2024 06:32

Hi all. Almost a year on and my daughter still has a small ridge on her forehead where the bump was. Our GP said it could take years to dissolve and not to worry. It's the same as your child's @Shambley, flat face on and only noticeable in certain lights or if you feel it. Hopefully it'll go one day but she's fine so I'm not too concerned anymore!

Hope your children are OK!

You absolutely don’t need to go to A&E for every bump on the head - we’d have lived there when ours were little! There’s clear guidance on signs to look out for which OP followed.

Yes the impact was to the forehead. It’s a lot smaller and the colour is back to normal. gp said it could take several months before it flattens but you know as mums we always worry that things like this don’t go away.

Yes @Shambley the impact was to her forehead. It’s got a lot smaller and the colour is back to normal which is good. Sometimes it’s more noticeable than others depending on the light. I just hope and pray it eventually goes away as she gets older and her face fills out.

@nmdrb Yes my wee girl is completely her self too. It’s more just the look of it.

Hey, I had something similar happen to me when I was 9, I tripped on my trousers and fell and smacked my head on the window ledge, I had what looked like a golf ball on the side of my forehead, my mum insisted on taking my brother to an extra curricular activity so I didn't get any help until my dad came home from work probably about 6 hours later and he put an ice pack on it, it went down, but I had this little raised ridge after the swelling went down, 21 years later its still there, I don't notice it, no one does, but I did find out what it was, I had a head X-ray a while ago and it turns out I fractured my skull and it healed but it healed wrong as kids have softer bones it's more likely to happen (for peace of mind I do remember the fall and I remember only feeling pain for about 20 mins)

Hope this helps your curiosity xx

@Hfsa1990 Hi so sorry as this is such an old thread. But my daughter has similar with this bump left over from her fall. I'm mst concerned about it being a different colour. It's only 2.5 weeks on but do you remember how long it took for the colour to return to normal and did it ever disappear? Thanks!
