Hello

My 3mo's eczema started to weep on he's cheek on Thursday. Nurse prescribed fuciden cream incase of infection. I managed to keep it under control with cooked boiled water and Sudo cream. Weeping tends to stop and it heals over during the day but as soon as he wakes in the morning the weeping starts again.

It's so up and down it looked basically back to normal before bed last night but an hour later can be very read and flakey again. It gets dry very quickly so I have to go between Vaseline and Sudo cream to keep it under control. Is there anything else I can do? I'm so stressed. I have held off using fuciden because I don't want to unless I know it's definitely an infection.

I have attached some photos of how it is over The past few days to show how up and down it is.

Thanks

use the fucidin - nurse thinks it's infected, it's weeping which is a sign of it being infected and the 'treatment' you're trying is not working.

Why don't you want to use it if a HCA has diagnosed an infection? Leaving an untreated infection is much worse than using the cream . . .

I've heard Child's Farm cream is good for eczema

@Matchingcollarandcuffs she didn't say it's definitely infected she prescribed it just incase.

That's the thing it is improving to the point of every evening weeping spots are completely gone and it's just like a dry eczema patch and can basically see it. It seems to be the dryness Through the night and him scratching at it that's re opening it and making it weep. Don't want to be adding antibiotic to it if unnecessary and it be opening and weeping anyway.

If I was 100% sure of infection and it wasn't improving in the day I would be using it

Why not just try the fucidin? It cleared up my daughters eczema very well x

@amber8378 My little boy has eczema too (he’s now 2.5) so I’ll give you a few things that helped us!

  • Sudocrem dries skin out. It’s pretty terrible for eczema so I’d definitely stop using that 😊
  • Make sure his nails are clean and cut very short.
  • Make sure his hands are covered at night. Babygrows with the built in mitts are great!
  • Do you breastfeed? It sounds bizarre but breast milk is fab for the skin! Pop some on if you have any!
  • For creams to keep it moisturised, we tend to do really well with one for a while then it stops working as well so we usually have to change every few months. Aveeno, Zerobase, Epiderm & La Roche-Posey all work well for us.

We have been prescribed cream a few times “just incase” of infection. If you’ve not managed to get it fully under control since Thursday then I’d give the cream from the nurse a try 😊

I would still say that that golden fluid that's leaking is a sign of infection - that's not just a 'normal' patch of eczema. I would try the cream for a few days and see if it helps - keeping it clean and dry as much as possible using cotton wool that's used once and thrown away to reduce the risk of it spreading

Childs farm et al are great for remoisturising dry/eczema skin but for now you need to concentrate on getting rid of the infection.

Some derms/trusts prescribe bleach baths just for this reason - obv that's overkill for such a small patch but it shows how bad infection can be for eczema

By the same token some people find the chlorine from swimming pools helps too (others that it makes it far worse)

My baby started like this. We did use the Fucidin H cream and it helped. Doctor said it was a low level infection - it looked like the photos you posted.

He now doesn't have much of an issue with his face but it has spread to other parts of his body, mainly his legs. We still don't know what caused it - it appeared overnight when he was a few months old. He's 14 months now.

I'd advise to try the Fucidin as it has been prescribed but use sparingly as it can cause issues if it gets into the eyes.

If you’re breastfeeding, express and bathe the skin directly, put it in their bath, literally get it on their skin anytime you’ve any to spare.

if you’re not breastfeeding and felt comfortable - you can get donors and use it in the baby bath. It really does work wonders.

Use the fucidin, it looks infected. Sudocrem is awful for my exczema, aveeno, diprobase, oilatum are all less drying
