Calf Twitching Constantly

For the past few months, my calf is twitching constantly in different places and whenever I'm laying down or have my feet on the sofa, it's really noticeable and you can literally see the muscles moving. It's on my happening in my right calf.

I tried to get a GP appt but ended up with the nurse who said it's probably menopause and maybe go on HRT! I'm not totally convinced it's menopause although I'm 49yrs.

I've had blood tests done as I've been dizzy, which showed I have a Vitamin D deficiency so I have been taking a Vit D tablet each morning which has stopped the dizziness, but my calf twitching has increased from just nighttime to all day as well.

Is anyone else suffering with twitching and been diagnosed?

Have you been ill at all. I have had bfs (benign fasciculation syndrome) since I had glandular fever at 21 and I'm now in my late 40s. I still get twitches when I'm run down.

Magnesium insufficiency also especially if peri as it can get depleted. It may be worth trying supplements for a few weeks to see what if that helps. Back to drs if not obvs.

If it helps it's quite a common thing.

If you aren't taking the cofactors (magnesium and VIT K) along with the vit D you will be depleting your body of magnesium which will be causing all the twitches. I was taking 4000iu vit D without magnesium and my eye started twitching for 6 months until I researched about magnesium and started taking 300mg magnesium glycinate daily and over the course of 3 weeks to a month the twitching massively reduced and then stopped.

Hi, I had this. Dr did a blood test for underactive thyroids so maybe push for that to be checked?

tadpole73 · 17/04/2023 07:32

Thanks for your replies. My thyroid has been tested and is fine. I'm just taking Vitamin D but not magnesium with it. Should I be then and Vitamin K?

Is magnesium that you buy in supermarkets magnesium glycinate?

If your on Facebook look up the vitamin D protocol group. Yes you should be taking magnesium with vit D as it depletes magnesium if you take on it's own. Some vit D supplements have vit K included as it helps it work better xx

@Lolacat1234 Can I please ask the name of the magnesium you take?

crazeecatlady · 17/04/2023 11:56

I find magnesium spray also works well

I’ve suffered something similar for some years now, Two suggestions that have worked for me:

  1. Wearing flight socks generally puts a stop to it

  2. Wear socks with gentle grip (2 inches of a honeycomb rib) rather than a half inch elastic rib, available online from Sock Shop directly or through Amazon.

Thank you!

I had this for about three months last year during a period of emotional stress (bereavement) it never stopped moving. It resolved itself once I started to feel better emotionally
